Hi,
I've got a '88 Caprice with a 305 and I'm planing to make it go a little bit faster. It already have a Holley 600cfm on i'm planing to get this combo:
- Edelbrock Performer Plus Cam + lifter kit
- Holley Street Dominator / Edelbrock Performer intake (not sure which one to choose)
- Flowtech headers
- Dynomax Thrush Turbo / Super Turbo mufflers (again, don't sure which ones)
There will be only a headers and straight 2 1/4" tubes towards the rear axle with mufflers on it and H-pipe. No cats ...
You think I'm getting it right? Or is it crap and I should change something?

Oh, one more thing - how much horsepower you think I can get?
And what about the heads? Can't afford new ones right now, must keep wit what's there. Should I get them milled a little?

I agree with the 350 comment. 305 is snappy and tough, but not "powerful".
If you must stick with 305, forget the combination you described. "Old school". Get Performer, a well-built Q-Jet, Comp DE (Dual Energy) cam in the 206/212 range, Hooker headers, recurved HEI, "comp" valve grind, 9.5:1 compression, and maybe a set of Magnum roller-tipped rockers. Good fuel economy and good torque to about 4,500 RPM. It will make your car feel a lot stronger than it does now!

I know that 350 is stronger, but over here (Czech Republic - Europe) you can't just walk into the junkyard and grab a 350 for hundred bucks. So I have to stick with my 305.
But it's, unfortunately, too late to make any changes - friend picked up the parts at Summit yesterday and they're on the way.
In the end I sticked with Holley 600cfm, Edelbrock Performer Plus Cam + lifters, Edelbrock Performer intake, Flowtech headers and Dynomax Thrush Turbos and 2.25" pipes with H-pipe.
BTW: What about the H-tipe? I'm doing a custom exhaust, where and how thick it should be?

Diameter of the cross over should be approx. 75% or more of the diameter of the main exhaust pipes. In your case, 1 3/4 to 2 inch should be fine.
As for location.... I have read that as close as possible to the header collector is ideal. However, usually the transmission gets in th way, so behind the trans, just under the front u-joint on the driveshaft is fine.

did you get the performer eps or the performer rpm manifold? the rpm looses a tiny bit of torque to the eps, but kicks its ass at higher rpms

The most effective way we've found to establish where the "H Pipe" should be, is to paint the pipes with regual spray paint. Where the paint stops burning off, that's where you want the H. It sounds like a hokey deal (no offense, VT fans), but it works.
