Stereo Question

Hi Everybody:
I have a 2000 Lincoln LS with the Alpine stereo and 6 disc changer. I have a dumb question, it seems like the bass on the stereo is very weak. I've checked the settings on the stereo and the bass is set to maximum, I've also changed the settings from front seat, back seat, and all seats. I still don't get a lot of bass. Are the factory speakers installed just weak, or could it be something else? Thanks for your help.

Did you just buy the car, or does it seem like the bass is weaker than it was weeks/months/days ago?

When you change the bass setting, does it seem ot have an effect on the bass output?

I just bought the car a month ago. We have a 2002 Grand Prix that has decent bass without an amp, the LS doesn't seem to compare. I do notice a difference when adjusting the bass setting. However, even at its highest it doesn't seem to impress. Obviously I don't expect it to thump without an amp, but I thought it would be a bit better than what it is especially since it seems like the Alpine stereo is quite nice. Thanks for your help.

Well, Lincoln went for a cleaner sound, which doesn't always mean a bunch of bass. GM cars do seem to have more bass than most other manufacturers, but in my opinion, at the cost of sound quality. Granted, "good sound quality" is a subjective thing, so your opinion is likely different from mine. Don't get me wrong, I used to have 900 Watts and 3 12-inch subs with Infinity highs and mids, so I do like loud bass, but I appreciate decent sound at the same time.

And technically, your GM does have an amp, it's just internal to the deck. :) Lincoln went with component amps to allow for multiple different configurations of the audio system more easily. I've been told the LS with the THX-certified system is unbelieveable (and does come with subwoofers) but I've never actually heard one.

It's interesting, when I bought this car, I noticed the CD Player didn't work. It turns out that the fuse was missing. Tonight I decided to listen to the subwoofers, turns out they weren't functioning at all. I headed back to the fuse box in the trunk an noticed that a 5amp fuse was in place of what should be a 20amp. Sure enought the 5 was blown. After replacing it, I couldn't believe the difference, SIGNIFICANT and much more impressive. I'm totally satisfied. I looked over the rest of the fuses and noticed many were not the right amps. I've since replaced all, though I am a little nervous as to why the fuses are wrong. Anyway, thanks for all of your help!

Hmmm, make sure that you had the fuse diagram oriented properly for the fuse layout. If you are positive that the orientation was correct, then I'd be concerned as to why so many were of the wrong current rating as well.

Glad to hear you are pleased with the sound of your system now, I'm actually surprised you have a subwoofer.
