Fluctuating oil pressure

Hello everybody, I just have a quick question that I couldn't find the answer to on here: Why does the oil pressure fluctuate when idle/accelerating? I understand that the relative viscosity plays a large part in this as well as engine temperature, but none of my other vehicles do this...they stay relatively constant. Just a thought...

The fluctuation is while you are accelerating? Oil pump can be going out.
if its the difference between idle AND acceleration thats just engine RPMs, all engines do that. Im jsut not sure what you meant.

My '93 idles at around 10 p.s.i. Down the road at around 40 p.s.i.

If it is a Chevy then you are okay. I haven't seen a Chevy yet, v6 or v8, that didn't fluctuate from idle to highway rpms. All you need is 1psi per 1000 rpms on an average enigne anyway so 10 psi at idle will be fine.
