AC compressor clutch cycling

I have a friend with a 1997 Ranger with a tiny R134A leak. After the dealership topped up the system about two years ago, the truck now has just adequate AC and the AC clutch cycles often. I know the right fix is to replace the compressor with the leaky seal....but until then I'm guessing about the proper refrigerant charge. Properly serviced, just how often should the compressor clutch cyle off? Once a minute? Once every 5 minutes? With ambient temps in the mid 90s should the low side pressure stay above the low pressure cutout value.....?

Thanks!

If you turn the ac on, the fan on high, and open the doors ... the clutch should never disengage, as the ac "can never catch up" in this situation.

You are most likely (dangerously) low on refrigerant. Easy to correct. Don't wait until you have compressor damage!
