The v6 engine in my '89 camaro rs died....I was wanting to replace it with a v8...Does anyone know where I could find one at?(junkyard?) And also what all I need to do to make the change from v6 to v8? Any words of advice would be appreciated.

not another one of these, it is way to much work to switch a v6 to a v8. You have to change tranny, rear end, suspention, fuel system, computer, and LOTS more. it is cheeper to buy a car with a v8 in it. We should have these v6-v8 threads as sticky because to manny people ask if it can be done and ho wmuch work. OH and Welcome to AF!

In a politer way of saying, it's just not worth it. You'd be better off droping a new 6 in it and reaping the benefit of a 'fresh' motor. But the overall concept of swaping a V6 to a V8 car just is a headache in itself.

sorry, was not trying to be mean, but i am just saying it is to much work, save you a head ache and money by buying a v8 car. And i was jsut saying there has been alot of questions about people wanting to switch to a v8 from a v6. So i thought maybe would could have a sticky thread about it so it save us time, and people who are interested in it. Sorry if i came off mean in any way.

I'll do what I can and send it in a PM to John, he can go from there with it I guess and can add more.

You know I tell people all the time not to do the v6 swap and just to go with a V8 car but in alot of third gens the swap is very common and I don't blame people like Drvngstorm for wanting 4th Gen base power with third gens weight and looks. So I am not going to make a rule these type threads are not allowed but it would be nice to see new members and old search the topic rather than make new threads on a subject that has been beat to death. Like the LT1 Vs. LS1 threads.

i am not saying not to allow them, just have it a sticky so people will see how much work is needed so it save us and them time.

There is alot of work in installing a torque converter or doing a head port and cam swap too but the performance increase is justifiable. So I am not going to criticize how people decide how to increase the performance of there ride. Fact of the matter is , I have a LT1 sitting in my garage, if I had a third gen sitting in the driveway , you can bet your ass if would be going in place of a V6.

Looks good 666, Nice work, I will probably move it to the performance section and sticky it.
