Temporary Neutral Condition, colder temp

Just a note: I am starting this new thread because it would take weeks to search based on the fact that I have no specific information to look for, as far as naming certain parts and whatnot.

We have a 98 Ford Taurus, 3.0L V6 (VIN "U"). On cold start, it seems to have a temporary neutral condition issue on takeoff, and sometimes between 1st and 2nd. After about 5 minutes, the car is good for the rest of the day, no trouble. Snap-On MT2500 shows that the transmission solenoid #2 is staying on, GEAR shows as 1st no matter where the RANGE (PN[OD]D21) is. Havent had a chance to drive it with the scanner and watch the GEAR indicator. This is about all the information i have for seeing as I am at home. If ANYTHING else is required for anyone to help me, I can and will provide it.

Search for TRS - Transmission Range Sensor and MLPS - Manual Lever Position Sensor. TRS will probably yield the most hits, and you may even find some people with similar symptoms to yours.

As a side note, when was the last time you had the transmission fluid and filter replaced? What is the condition of the fluid currently, and is it at the full mark, not over or under full? Did you notice what the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) was reading on the MT2500 at startup compared with ambient temperature (assuming the car was being started cold while monitored)?

The car originally came in with this problem 3 months ago. All 3 shift solenoids were replaced and the filter and fluid were changed. This seemed to have fixed the problem for the 3 months.
