at my church, we had a guy just come back from iraq from his 3rd tour, he was an engineer, and he was on a guard tower, and stood up suddenly, and got knocked off the tower by a stolen .50cal rifle's bullet as he stood. if he hadn't he would have taken it through the teeth. he survived because of his Bullet proof vest. it punched a hole almost all the way through it. knocked him off the guard tower and over teh side. he's a little man too.

An explosion off in the distance and flying debris almost hits some soldiers.

Are you sure it was a .50 Caliber? If I understand your story, he took one in the chest, remember this is an antimaterial round, and flew off a gaurd tower, managing to live without even a bullet wound? :S

2nd, a 50 cal round in just about any form would blow right through any kind of vest. It was probably a smaller round. Even with a vest getting hit with a standard 5.56 or 7.62 is like getting hit with a hammer, it can easily knock you off your feet.

That's what I was getting at, but trying to be more polite about it:p
A .50 BMG is designed as a hard target penetration round, so I doubt it would be stopped by something like a kevlar vest. On that note, explosive/incendiary and S.L.A.P rounds wouldn't be exactly vest-friendly either.
Now, given I've never been shot. Yet. But in all likelyhood he got hit with a 7.62 varient, considering most of the common Eastern Bloc hardware is chambered for that round (AK-47 and derivitives, SVD, etc.)...
IF he got hit with a stolen US/Friendly rifle, it would most likely have either been a 5.56 or 7.62, like you pointed out.

The first video you included looks to be a Windrunner .50 Cal. The second might be a 10 guage shotgun of some sort?
EDIT: Picture of Windrunner for comparison
