What is a 'PIP' ?

I read this in another forum and the poster said his 'GM specialist' called it a PIP and I wonder if the guy is right because he never says what a 'PIP' is or what it does.

Another curiousity question. 03 Taurus Vulcan: Where is the EGR valve located? I read it has a 'hidden' five year warranty and don't savvy the term, "hidden warranty."

"As for (2) the pip is a very common problem for engine light on Tauras' with 3.0L engine. The pip (in where your distributor is) twists and causes the sensor to break apart thus causing the engine light to light up. I'm no mechanic but the one I go to used to be an engine specialist with GM so I take his word as gospel. He's never been wrong yet and saved me a fortune."

I am to lazy to look up the pvc valve location and as far as the PIP thing it usually refers to about three different things and none of them are a GM term they are all Ford/Mercury/Mazda related.

The EEC-IV/OBD-II interface port on a FoMo vehicle.
A motion sensing circut device that measures and reports crankshaft position sensor data.
Alignment dots found along Mercury and Lincoln crankshaftsI have been drinking....heavily so if anything is misspelt it was because I couldn't read the start menu to find the spell checker.

There is no "hidden warranty". Look in your owners manual and look for emission warranty. It states the basic 3-36 warranty and "certain emission" parts are covered to 5 years-50k and "certain" other emission componets are covered up to 8 years-80k. The main problem for the DIY is "What certain part is covered?"

PIP in this sense is Profile Ignition Pickup. It will be part of the ignition module/Hall effect pickup in the ignition system.

I think they are confused on the location for the Taurus as I suspect what the GM Specialist is referring to is the Camshaft Position Sensor. These have been a problem, with similar causes to what he described, on the Taurus.
