Hey i was wondering if it would be alright to buy the products u need to paint a body kit and what would u really all need to get to have her 100% complete. OR take it to a professional and get it done... and what would the average price be>?

if you do it yourself, you want to do it in a dust free environment with ventilation. it really depends on how competent you are with a paint sprayer and how much u want to save

You can do it yourself, but you need the proper equipment to do it. For starters you need a high volume low preseure paint gun and a Compressor to go with it as well as a dust free enviornment to get the best finish. After that it comes down to quality of paint!

The first thing your going to need is an adheasion promotor. You apply this directly to the plastic. This will create a surface that the primer can stick to. Without this you may have pealing or bubbles quicker then you expect!

Second use primer! Get a color that is easy to paint over for the color of your car. Use a grey for light colors and black for dark. I think they come in brown too. Choosing the right color will be more cost effective, where you dont have to have as much paint to cover the primer. Sand your primer smooth with a high grit sand paper before you paint.

Third you apply your paint. You need paint and reducer. Reducer thins out the paint for application. Check with your local paint shop for details. Usually a gallon of reducer should run you about 20-30 bucks. Paint price depends on the quality of paint. I can get a quart of mixed paint for 20 dollars. For application use 2-3 thin coats.

Fourth is the clear coat. The most important of all and the most expensive. Expect to pay a lot more for this but dont cheap out on it! If you want a good lasting finish you have to spend the money for it. I cant remember how much I got the last time I painted, but I do remember it was 200 dollars. It bairly did the whole car. I should have gotten more but I didn't want to spend any more money. You can probibly get a lot less for what you are doing, cause you arn't covering as much space, so it wont cost nearly as much. You will also need hardner for the clear coat. Again talk to you local paint shop for mixing! For applicaion you want to make sure the clear has time to dry before you go on to the next coat. MAKE SURE YOU DONT OVERSPRAY! This may leave drips and unwanted clear masses on your finish. Just make sure you cover it evenely and do a few coats. Use a high grit sand paper inbetween coats to make it smooth!

This is the general procdure. It may vary between different paint manufacturers. But you should be able to get the basic idea from this. And anything else people tell you from this fourm.

GOOD LUCK IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF! But man it'll save you money.

A desent HVLP Sprayers go for around that price, you can also check ebay but you have to be careful with their quailty. Some are very cheap and will spray that way! I would seggest a gravity feed gun as well. I've used both gravity and bottom feeds and was much happier with the gravity feed.
