Traction Control Problem

Hi guys,

I've got a problem with my '03 GTP. MY DIC is telling me that the traction control is turned off, and I can't turn it back on by pressing the "trac off" button to the right of the display light. I took it to my local mechanic, and he says a code came up that says that it needs to be reconfigured (or somthing like that).

Has anyone experienced this problem? What could've done this and how much do you think it'll cost to fix? I'm surprised to have any problems w/the car, b/c I haven't done any mods to it, since it only has 35K miles. Unfortunately, the warranty expired in March, so this will be an out of pocket expense :mad: .

Sounds like the EBCM module (also traction control) is hung up or there is a loss of serial data for whatever reason. Try pulling the ABS maxifuse and DIC fuse for a short while. Then re-install and see what it does. Or if that doesn't work disconnect the battery negative cable overnight. Make sure you have the codes for Theftlock on the radio if being used. Good luck!

Thats correct. Engine off, then remove fuses. Next take ignition to on/run but not start for several seconds. Ignition off. Re-insert fuses. Ignition back to on/run. Then see what it does.

Hi everyone,

This is just a follow-up on how my "trac light" problem got resolved. I took my car to the dealer and they told me that the "trac off" and "abs" lights were coming on because my ABS module needed to be replaced, and that it would cost $1,200.00. When I asked how it could've broken so quickly (since my car is an '03), he told me that it was just "bad luck".

I wasn't happy with that answer, so I called GM and started complaining to them. A couple hours later, the dealer called back and told me that GM would pay for the $950 part, but that the labor was my expense. Now the car runs better than ever and those lights have stayed off ever since.

It appears that other people in this forum have had this problem with their GP's, so I hope this post will help anybody else with this problem to get their car to work right again.
