Cleaning Rims

Any advice on products for cleaning rims (mine are Aluminum I would assume). I notice the car wash doesn't do a good job, plus I find if you take your car out for a drive they get dirty very quickly (dust from break pads?).

I find that manually washing them with a small brush works but is a pain because the rims get dusty so fast. Just wondering if there is some kind of safe solvent that I can spray on the rims to help the car wash do it's thing or even if I can just spray on and hose off on the driveway that would be great.

Magical dust repellent is a workable solution for me too!

I finally have a car with rims (not hub caps)! so I suppose I can throw in my two cents. You might try Armor All wheel cleaner. It's what I've used since I bought my new car. You just spray it on (after washing with soap and water of course) and wipe it off. It seems to work pretty good. In between washings I try to maintain the cleanliness by doing another quick spray on wipe off. Rims do seem to catch dust quite easily but it only takes a few minutes to have them looking good again!

A friend of mine has had success cleaning rims with that ball made by mothers. I think it's called "power ball" or something like that, I think you hook it up to the end of a drill, but I'm not sure.

you can hook it up to a power drill and it will spin it like a buffer. it is cut specialy to help clean wheels and stuff. they have them at Auto Zone and places like that. it looks pretty cool and i would buy one if i had some actual rims. i just got the hub caps

There's two things you can do to clean and prevent brake dust on rims. Use a good wheel cleaner like armor all, eagle, turtle wax, mothers, meguires to clean them and if you want to prevent the dust use ceramic brake pads instead of metallic or semi metallic. The ceramic pads don't produce the brake dust like the metallic ones do.
