I have a 94 metro its grey. Its a regular metro Im almost sure.
I just got my insuarance cards updated to add my mazda protege.
And on the metro it said, GEO XFI
Well, I never thought I had an xfi. I think mostly because I thought it wasnt made in 94. Or some reason I cant even remember, because my friend had an xfi and we actually looked over the differences and drove them both.
Theres no xfi symbol on mine and the metro sticker is still there in the back.
I mean Im as positive as I can be because I think the biggest difference is um... isnt it ignition? isnt that the main upgrade like a dis ingnition?
What are the things you could spot on an xfi?
I could be wrong too but every xfi I ever saw was white. I check out a lot of metros too over the years. This could be less than foolproof but it happens to be the case so far.

one way to spot it is the bumper is all black, not painted on top or whole thing like on the lsi

um
the bumper is all black...
thats not a way to spot it... most metros the bumper is all black.
and i definitely forgot I just saw a blue xfi so obviously they came in different colors.
The most common color Ive seen though is white with blue pinstripes on it.
i mean look at my cardomain and tell me if you see what you are referring to.
edit oh i see, rear bumper, top is painted silver. not an xfi then?

ok well since this I looked around at more metros and their bumpers.
It seems that after 95, most metros have all black bumpers. I mean, metros, and LSIs. non painted on top. And swifts as well.
Id say, all metros but thats not true either because Ive seen LSIs 95 up with an entirely painted bumper as well. Ive seen Sedans lsi with both all blakc bumper and painted bumper. Both the same color even.
Whatever the bumper relation, it needs more clarification.

hi this is going back to this thread about xfi and bumpers
Id like to write down what i know about metro bumper colors and models in case someone else needs it someday
there are 3 types of bumpers on metros and swifts. they are, all black plastic, black plastic with the top painted, and all painted.
this is the data
1. I have only seen all black bumpers on an xfi. I have also only ever seen two colors for xfi, and about 19-20 ive seen have been white.
2. I have seen all three kinds of bumpers on a metro. I have only seen the painted on top bumper on a regular 3 cyl metro hatch. but metros can have all three types of bumpers.
3. I have seen all black bumpers, and all painted bumpers on lsi hatches and sedans.
4. I have seen all black bumpers and all painted bumpers on swifts.
if anyone has any corrections please let me know. this is based on vehicles I have seen.
So anyhow
what crvte said is correct. if its painted on top its a regular metro hatchback. however the opposite is not true, that if its all black its an xfi.

I know that we're all weird and stuff up here in Canada, you know, not helping out in Iraq, saying eh, and still putting the queen on our money, so this may be an exception to the rules which you are accustomed to.
The bumpers on all the metros that I see are the same colour (yes we like to put u's in a lot of words that American's don't) as the rest of the car, with an unpainted black stripe. Here's my front bumper, same as the back. All the MK3 metros are like this here. Oh, and ALL Canadians have hood ornaments like mine held on by either nylon roap or duct tape. (You've heard of Red Green haven't you?) No front license plate is strictly an Alberta thing. Why, I don't know.

Hmmm...yes the Canadians are an odd bunch I have to say although I just got back from Vancouver BC (a place I visit frequently) and do not recall seeing any cars with these kinds of ornaments. Mind you I did see an unprecedented number of small and fuel economical vehicles including several Metros. What's going on - where are all the Hummers and all the vehicles with 15 gallon per mile economy :grinyes:
As for Iraq...the less said the better....

Ah Vancouver. We have a saying here in Alberta. People move here from Vancouver cause they want to own a truck. As far as the Hummers and other f*#kers driving SUV's, just visit Edmonton or Calgary. Getting sick of not being able to see past the vehicle in front of me. I wonder if it's possible to jack a metro about 8 feet... My question is, how much does fuel have to cost for those people to give up their Land Bruisers before they switch to metros? How about $5/gal? See this link to read on.

P.S. Vancouver is an oddity in Canada. Most yuppie city I can think of. Not that we're any more normal here in Edmonton.

Wow
well I have only seen vancouver as a tourist.
But on the trip north both times I have had this thought. This is the third world.
When you see seattle, which is a very wealthy city by US standards, and then you see vancouver its like a world apart. I dont even want to get into describing it for fear I will offend canadians. But its poverty.

Doubt if any part of Canda can beat Southern California which I believe leads the US in large vehicles according to survey I saw not long ago. I also believe this to be accurate having seen the kind of vehicles in different cities. Also good point about the cost of ownership of this kind of vehicle and the associated costs such as gas. Many of these vehicles are either new or almost new and in very good condition. I suspect many owners of trucks and SUVs have large auto loans and possibly other forms of debt - a common occurance here. And many here complain about the high cost of gas since California has the highest gas price in the US generally but part of the problem I feel is the demand fuelled by the owners of these vehicles.

Interesting views. I believe Vancouver BC is rated as one of the most desirable cities to live in, in the world. Not sure where you went to get that impression. True some parts of the downtown area are not so nice but the rest and the suburban areas are very nice. Not sure if have really been to a third world county - I have - and there is really no comparision.
Once should not forget that many parts of the US have a distinctly third world feel - better not say too much as I may offend Americans :grinyes:

Well, if you like concrete, then move to Seattle. I'm more impressed when people find a unique and beautiful place and manage to keep much of it intact while setting up a metropolis around it. I encourage anybody to take a look at pictures of Stanley Park.

hmm
well I dont know. I dont want a canadian us fight lol. as a matter of fact, Ill expatriate to canada tommorow. just send me the papers and ill leave this evil place.
what Im commenting on most is just the ridiculous wealth of seattle. nice roads and cars, new clothes.
It is also a much larger city no doubt.
vancouver is much more like, old abandoned buildings. mom and pop type stores. old cars. seedy. Also has a larger immigrant demographic...
I mean um. The land around is very nice.
I just want to relate the reality of what Im talking about. which I think is pretty self evident. average income in the seattle area is going to be like two three four times what it is in vancouver. Its yuppieland.
Just and interesting cultural shock. You can see the same thing if you went from um... houston to new orleans. thats pretty generically topical.
Hey its not just me its a pretty common topic to that part of the country. Im just a tourist. Obviously a much bigger culture shock by the southern border.

LOL...this is seriously off topic but here is my "netural" view seeing that I'm neither American or Canadian.
Seattle is a much larger city no doubt that Vancouver. However for the wealth question - let's remember that many people over here purchase stuff on credit/loans and it can be possible to put up a "wealthy" front without actually having much money. So we cannot really say how wealthy people really are simply through the eyes of a tourist.
Also has a larger immigrant demographic...
Don't follow that. Does "immigrant" in this context suggest recent arrivals to the country or non-whilte people or what. How do you know who is an immigrant and who is not without talking to people and getting some hard facts.
First time I've hard of somone from here going to Canada and experiencing a cuture shock. :grinyes: Now that you have done that you can set your signts on something more exotic.

Well, I guess everyone has different ideas of what defines wealth. Some would think that we are poor cause we drive metros. Myself, I see my car as a choice to save my money to spend on something I really enjoy. That won't be designer clothes, cars or roads though. The money I save on gas, insurance and car loans I don't have allow me to spend more time with my friends and family. I easily get by working 20 to 25 hours a week. That's what I call wealth. Sorry to look so poor to you, hopefully you can adjust.

P.S. What could be off topic in a thread called hmmmm makes me wonder.... ?

Lol…Don’t you know – over here wealth = money. And yeah I really wish those people from Vancouver would buy some new clothes, make the city look better and have less “immigrants” – that way we will feel happier when we visit.:grinyes:
On a more serious note many people do go on vacation and make conclusions about life in a place and based on my experience you cannot really understand what it is like to live somewhere (especially a different country) unless you live there. For example I’ve had people from over here visit Europe and then complain about how expensive things were – but this is with them staying in the most expensive part of town and buying things at tourist prices. Same thing with people visiting the US – they go to one place and then think the whole country is like that. A good example in fact is services like auto repair or plumbing services – unless you live somewhere you will not experience what these cost.
