high high high high idleing!!!!

yesterday it had rained and part of our street flooded and i drove down center and at end car almost died which i knew what would hapen then i go back home and let engine dry off and i start it like 10 min later and it went into high idle which went higher than normal and it went back to normal then today the hood latch cable broke and i went to autozone and other places to find same exact one but no1 had them the car ran fine going to those places untill i go to dealer ship and im going to leave i start the car and the dam car goes into high high high high idleing i say and i turn it off and try it again and i go to drive away to see if it stops. i get about 3 blocks down idleing and im already going 20mph. so on my way home it is friken hot out and ccar is about 1/4 away from hot zone then it goes almost into the hot zone and i had to turn heat on to cool it down. wut coulde be causeing this high high idleing? hell i feel like i could blow the engine just sitting in the driveway. i got a 91 sunbird le 2.0L OHC TBI

check hoses for swelling/tears
but its probably either water damage on something or water getting into something like your oil pan or something...

it will run right after driving for 1 min. when i took the filter houshing apart i found water in it and dumped it out. we checked map sensor and whn we unplug the eletrical connection it will go down in idle and almost die untill we plug it back in. hell the vaccume is so damn loud my dad couldnt even hear me on the other side of the car even yellling.

i let car sit over nigght and start it and it is running fine.

now i drove car to work and it ran fine then i drive home it runs fine then i go to go o my sisters soccer game the car goes into high idleing. then after about 20mins i left then i gethome and i look at temp gage and it is near high zone then i step on gas like 3 times then all of the sudden i see it shoot all the way up as far as it could go so i shut if off. now it still is in high temp range. i then le tis sit for like 30min then i go back to it start it up temp is up to about 1/4 of guage then i go drive it around block still in high idle then i look at gage and it is high up again. i do hear a hissing noise coming from the raatior hose by temp sensor.

Did the car actually over heat? As in smoke coming from under the hood? Or did you shut it off before that happened?

If water got into your engine while it was running many bad things could have happened so we wont even go into that until we need to.

i shut it off before it woould have started smoking. the only thing i would think if is the map sensor probabl casue their is a little hole on the bottom of it and water could have gotten in their.

i went and asked mechanic and he said it may take days for sensors to dry out. so im going to let car sit but just now i went to bakc it out of drive way to park iinto a spot so i can get other cars out. im backing out and i feel a little shaking and i got the high idle which not as high as it was before but then i go to pulll it into spot i hear it droping in idle and a little shaky. with the high temps i experienced i could either have a cracked head or a blown head gasket. wcould i have one of these problems with the shacking?
