I am wanting to get the keyless entry working on my van. Purchased it not too long ago with no FOBS.
I have 2 FOBs from different vehicles, ford and Acura. One is 372 MHZ and the other is 315 MHZ.
The original Fob was a 315 MHZ. I have tried programing both but don't work.
Does the fob have to be the correct one for the vehicle or can you program one from a different vehicle?

A person I know works for a large electronics company (non automotve). I will ask him if he knows anything about the electronics for these things. It seems that the FOB sends a radio wave signal to the reciever and the locks open. Sounds simple, maybe simple fix. But maybe a person needs the software to make them work? ???
As much as electronics are hard to fix, the more their is on the net.( just look at all the pirated TV satilite systems out there, all software related and some electronics)
The after market seems to be able to make ones that work. Why can't we?
If I find anything out I will reply back.

I believe it is a little more than just "a radio wave" that is transmitted. I believe it is "encoded" with a sequence number of some kind, and if that number is within an "acceptable range" that is recognized by the receiver, then it will work.
If this was NOT the case, someone could use frequency counter/analyzer in a parking lot, and then a transmitter to regenerate the detected signal to get into your car. Not good!

Their is something in the micro chip . I have gotten some info from my source but he is working on it.
If I figure that an after market retailer could sell me an after market part then it couldn't be too hard to get them working.
I just have an inkling that it is a software issue. Not for me to steal a car but to get my old banger locks going.
Must be someone out there that has knowledge.
The satilite industry is doing well with all the pirating and like I mentioned it is mostly software related to get a reciever working and have all 900 +channels.
Lots of web sites that deal with it. Just have to know where to look and what to do.

My electronic person says it is beyond his scope to get any Fobs working. He suspects their is software out their somewhere on the net but would be hard to find and do; especially for the price that you pay for a new fob or reciever. Cheap.
Was at the wrecker today and found a 93 Transport that came in with all the Fobs attached. I brought them home and didn't work. WEnt back and got the recever and now it works. Got lucky to find all the Fobs and recever together. $15.00
