gas smell

My 99 VW Passat smells like gas inside and out, it happens more often in the mornings then during the day. Also if I cannot smell it in the inside I can smell it by the gas cap outside. Other then that my car runs great, my gas mileage seems to be fine and it doesnt matter if it is between gas fill ups or not.

Also its a V6 GLX I took in couple of weeks ago and they checked fuel lines-vapor canister and fill tube vent system or so they claimed.

Do you have a check engine light on, if you do then the gas cap could leak?

What about in engine compertment; also where do you park your car? If you park on grass then some lines could corrode (maybe). Check for wet spots...

I park it in the garage and I had the mechanic look at the lines and he said they look fine.

If you don't see drip signs on the garage floor or anywhere on the body, and you still smell the gas, then it must be some sort of seal.

I had leaky injectors in my old Honda, it smelled gas inside car.

What does it take to get it fixed and how much did it cost.

Honda parts are cheaper; also, your problem could be different. I would just buy an air freshner, and wait till something shows up.

Perhaps, someone who knows it will read this thread and help you later.

the fuel lines area located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. They go from the airbox along the firewall to the engine, if you have a flathead screwdriver than you can take off the engine cover (turn counter clockwise 1/2 turn on the 4 screws) and check for fuel anywhere
