GTO vs. CTS-V (Wingmen Vids)

So since certain members have been on my ass about vids I decided to go get a camera mount and vid-cam some street races.
Please hold the critizism, the camera is a cheap Kodak Easyshare with no night time capability and the vids are only one angle since I cant drive and pivot the braket at the same time! hey you wanted vids! not movies!

The story:
Me and Gotian went out looking for trouble last night, we where out for over 6 hours and drove over 30 miles looking but couldt catch anything.
Finally my wife met up and we left. On the way home I decided to try out the camera on her and see how it would look.
As Im driveing next to her we start getting tailed by a Cadilac CTS.
Dude was polite but he kept it close, finally he sweeps over to the middle lane and blows by me. It sounded mean as shit so i figured we play. We did a few side by side runs but for less then 40 feet cause of traffic and lights we didnt really get a run.

We split and go sepprerate ways and Im almost home when he pulls out of nowhere next to me again! HOLLY CRAP! this dude swung around and followed me! he deffenetly was out for a kill.......thats when my heart sank......It wassnt a regular CTS....it was a CTS-V! I haddnt seen the sport V logo on the side till that moment.
I ask "LS2?" he replies "NO LS6"
me:.....LS6?.....thats a C5 ZO6 motor....uhohhh!
we turn down a clear street and I count it down.

we started from a roll, I was in second and reving at about 3000rpm which is good Toque range for the LS2. I kept up side by side through all of 2nd, neither gaining a bit. Then I shift to 3rd....It was like I hit the brakes! HE goes zooming past me, shift, breaks traction for a few seconds and then pulls some more. He got a car and half on me! He shifts again as do I, he breaks traction yet again and then theres a lump on the road, he hits it at over 90mph, catches a half foot of air and lands and we shut down.
AMAZING is what I call it, that cars was wicked fast and he drove it like a pro! Luckily the landing was soft and he didnt even tuck the wheels in so no damage done.

we went to a gas station and we talked for a bit, He was real cool, didnt brag about the win or anything. I told him about the Wingmen team and the AutoX he said "I am down man!" so we exchanged info and hopefully I have a new track buddy to lay down LS motor domination at the SCCA runs. He told me about his sick ass Camaro and how he is getting it TTed and roll caged for the track, this guy was awsome and really humble.

what year cts-v is it? i only thought the cts-v, 2006 version only has the LS2 6.0L 400hp/395tq? im not disbelieving, but after looking up a few sites i only see the ls2 cts-v models. maybe the guy meant something else? nice death overall though and good run.

edit-i noticed they had the ls6 motors b4 it being replaced with the ls2 later on after 2006 i believe. lol search is my friend.

Good loss. The LS6 powered CTS-V, I believe, is faster then the LS2 powered one. They also came with 3.73 gearing, which helps out with the acceleration.

You need to look up your facts FST100. The CTS-V w/ the LS6 engine came out in the 04-05 model years. The 06 model has the LS2.

Nice loss and cool vid. I didnt know the cts-v's were really that fast. When he hits third (i think) he just takes off!

Yeah I usually chirp going into third but listen to his squeel when he shift for the third time. also if you listen real close a few seconds after he passes me you hear a thump. That was him hitting the ground right after he caught air. :grinyes:

Well, seeing as that you are a shotty driver, I'm thinking I just might buy another Honda, plop in an H22 and barely beat you...just to make it that much more embarassing that you can't drive :biggrin:. That sounds more eventful than smokin ya in the DSM. But, all things aside, good race.

Finally a vid... didn't see much... but it was a vide nonetheless. Awesome.

i was aware of the engine changes from 05 to 06 from the ls6 to ls2. no need to get al worked up.

Nope, I knew what the 3kgt would do so why mess with 400 hp cars if I knew I was gonna loose! I never went after weak cars either though, always tryed to keep it competative.

Nice race. A few months ago the had spectator drags at a speedway near my house (Seekonk Speedway) and when I looked over the cars I noticed a CTS-v and I said to my dad thats the car that's gonna win. Besides a couple LS-1 Camaro's, and a modded out Mark VIII(motor was in a T-Bird last year and kept right up with a LT-1 6-speed Vette) there wasn't much competition. On the first race out the dumbass in the CTS shut off the traction and stability control and lost to a Saab 9-3. No lie. He must have thought he could drive but he couldn't because that car slid around the whole track.

Video wasn't much to watch, sounded good though. Very nice race man.

I was looking over the car today after that dukes of hazard stunt and noticed my front splitter, a semi-thin rubber piece that lines the bottom of the front bumper... dislodged and torn on the right hand side! :) No big deal but now im a bit paranoid if i did any more damage!

Oh, well, no worries, that was a fun race. Let me know when ya'll are for sure gonna get to the autoX, been looking for something like this to do again...

Oh cool you found the site! sorry the Vid was so dark man, like I said its not night-time capable. I didnt consider damage to the front end......I did get a clear view of the tail and there wassnt any apparent hit to it. The landing was soft, the tires stayed out of the wheel-wells, No bottom out, no sparks.....but I didnt see the front.
Shit, I hope that was it and nothing more. You can hear the thump of it when it lands in the video.

Funny you said that becuz these cars are tricky o get out of the hole quickly. If i leave the traction on, i get wheel hop. I have to slip the clutch a bit just to get it going without spinning!!
