Lo3- Distributor removal

Is there any other way to remove the distributor without removing the engine-91caprice with Lo3 in the hood.

Of course: Remove the distributor cap. Make a note of the position/angle of the rotor relative to the engine, and/or take a digital photo of it for reference on assembly. Remove the rotor. Remove the distributor hold-down clamp bolt and clamp. Clean the area around the distributor base on the intake. Unplug the electrical connector(s) from the distributor. Lift the distributor from the engine and tilt it forward as it clears the lifter gallery in the engine. Stuff a clean rag or something else into the hole in the intake to prevent foreign objects from entering.
There should be plenty of space to remove the distributor with the cap removed, and you may be able to do it with the rotor still attached.

:grinno: I tryed that and it wont clear the firewall. I even had a Master Tech try to get it out and it wont come out unless removing the intake or pulling the motor forward( he said he's never seen anything like that before) Is their another method to remove the distributor?!?!

Blowtorch? Try removing one of the engine mounts and letting the engine sit lower and see if that works. Yes it's a lot of work, but not as much as lifting the engine out.

How about unbolting the trans mount and jacking it up to tilt the motor and trans forward? That should give you several degrees of tilt forward and let it come free....

Excellent point by CD. If the trans mount is worn or deteriorated, simply raising the tail housing with a floor jack might buy you enough space to get it removed. Then plan on a new trans mount soon.
