Is there an alarm for when the lights are left on the 4Runner or the keys are left in the ignition on the 2001 4Runner SR5? I thought my truck did this when I first bought it but now I don't think it makes any noises when this occurs?

Also, where do I get a replacement power antennae? The antennae motor is fine but I need to rethread a new antennae/plastic rip chord back into the motor... hopefully without taking the antennae motor out of the truck. I've done this before on an infiniti and figured the same on a Toyota. I can still hear the antennae motor run when I turn off the truck and it stops eventually but the antennae does not move unless I give it a push or two...but then stays up next time I turn the truck back on.

Thanks.

Hey, I replaced my antenna on my 2000 4Runner a couple of years ago. Here are the instructions I posted back then. Hope it helps.

Power Antenna 2000 4Runner

I just replaced the Power Antenna on my 2000 4Runner. It was pretty easy. I purchased a new antenna mast at the dealership for around $60.00. Here's how it went:

I unscrewed the antenna’s retaining nut on the fender and turned on the radio. From some research I had done on some 4Runner forums, one of two things would happen: Either the entire antenna with the plastic cord attached would just feed right out of the motor, OR if the plastic cord was severed, just the antenna would come out, and the plastic cord would be wound up inside the motor. In my case, the plastic cord was severed, so I had to get to the motor. NOTE: When pulling the old antenna out, make sure to note which way the “teeth” on the plastic cord are pointing. When you feed the new antenna (and plastic cord) into the motor, you’ll need to make sure the plastic teeth are pointing in the same direction.

You can’t really get to the motor from inside the hood or from the front passenger door jam. The guy at the dealership told me that I could get to the motor through the wheel well if I needed to. There's a plastic splashguard in the wheel well. I removed some screws in the splashguard, and peeled it back a little to get at the motor. I removed one screw that attaches the motor to the inside of the body, and pulled the motor out through the wheel well, leaving the electrical connections intact. Once I got the motor out, I removed about 6 screws and took the motor cover off. And there it was. The rest of the plastic cord. It just popped right out.

I then put the motor back together and put it back in the fender. I reattached the motor to the inside of the body with that one screw that holds it in place, and replaced the plastic splashguard inside the wheel well. With the fender retaining nut still off, I turned the radio on and let the motor finish running. I fed the new plastic cord with the antenna attached into the hole in the fender. I turned off the radio and the motor grabbed onto it, and sucked it right in. Then I put the retaining nut back on and everything works like a charm. It took me about an hour from start to finish, but I went slow since I had never done this before.
