what would you check to find out why the fuel pump wont turn on? i've had problems with the fuel pump forever. i always thought it was the fuel pump, but come to relize its something not turning it on. the fuel pump is only a few months old. i've tried cleaning the ground to get a good ground, that worked at first, but still having problems. sometimes it will turn on, other times it wont. any ideas?

Check the relay for the pump? Wait to see if GMerlin replies to this post, he is all knowing.

i checked continuity on the relays and fuses. all are good. im thinking the fuel pump must be bad. UNBELIVEABLE!

How did you make out with the fuel pump?

Don't overlook both the connector and ground connection on the frame rail near the LR wheel opening. They are notorious for failure here in the Salt Belt.

im still checking it out. MT hooked me up with the electrical fuel schematic. right now im checking the oil pressure switch and fuel prime.
Yeah, first thing i checked was the ground on the cross-member, and that seemed to work, but only twice. i checked the connectors last-time i replaced the pump, they were both clean and good.

Try bypassing the oil pressure switch:

-- disconnect the leads to the fuel pump
-- run two different colored 12ga wires from the battery
-- connect + wire to + side of the pump
-- firmly touch the - wire to the - side of the pump

If the pump runs, it's your pressure switch. If the pump does not run solidly or at all, it's your pump. Was the pump making any noises (ticking) just before the problem appeared? That's the best clue to a failing pump.

Some folks have installed a HD relay (30amp) energized by the oil pressure switch to power the fuel pump to alleviate any "chattering" of the contacts in the pressure switch.
