Are there any Chevettes left in the world?

Yep or well sort of. I saw 3 in the demo derby over the weekend.

I saw one at Wal Mart last week. Two rows over was a Pinto and this is the truth, I was in South Carolina.

i have owned several over the years.
buy them for 50 bucks, fix them up, sell em big!
i even built a 4x4 with a 4.3 once.....

the only one i have left is also the first one i ever owned.
it is currently on it's 5th motor...
1st: 1.6
2nd: 1.8
3rd: 305
4th: 327
5th (now): 350, th350, 4wheel disc brakes, 17" konig gtr

i need to pull that out and drive it more often..... it's been a few years and getting forgotten.... (4 kids do that to your projects!)

I've owned two, put over 250,000 miles on the first. I still have a box of parts and window glass in the shed.

How about a 1981 Chevette with 11k on the clock. I've known the car since it was new. It is mint, garage kept, but doesn't run. Needs a motor. Any suggestions on motor swap? I was thinking about a 305 or maybe a 3.8 v-6.

Get the whole entire drivetrain out of a Cyclone or Typhoon ;)

That 4.3 turbo would really fly, but I don't want to pay for all that.

I've got a 305 v-8 with 4spd auto from an 86 Grand Prix I was thinking about.
Anyone know it this setup will fit with out cutting the fire wall out?

I would bet you'll have to do heavy modifying to get that in there including cutting the firewall. Also, if you are going with a 305, go ahead and get a 350 which would be easier to build.

On the other hand a 4.3 Vortec motor would be just as fun and easier to stuff in there.

SBC 426 stroker, 18 cc dished pistons, 76CC heads, 18 PSI boost, and a little 108 octane. Should scoot the little car along nicely. Probably keep up with the imports without too much trouble, and you won't have to listen to those whiney four-cylinders straining to make 400 HP at 50,000 RPM. Cruisin' in the 'hood. Gotta love it. Aside from that, just keep it stock.

One of our ex-neighbors (and a old friend of the family) still has one (1981 2-dr) that they bought brand new in early 1981. It is dark blue and a fairly high optioned car (for a Chevette) if I recall. A/C, automatic, deluxe interior, etc. I remember back when we lived next to them in the early 1990s the car had caught fire under the hood. The owner had driven it to work, went in. A co-worker came in and told him that the car was on fire under the hood... they went running out with fire extinguishers and doused the flames... they helped out with a little rewiring and he drove it home that day and drove it for 2 more years! :p Come to find out the fire was caused by a massive oil leak at the valve covers. He finally parked it at his dads and I think a small tree smashed in the back glass. I am sure they still have it, because they still own every car they bought.
