Take old one off, put new one on. One bolt, very middle, cant miss it.

Use a puller.

Perhaps you can just use a measuring tape (like a tailor would use) to get an approximate size? GL

Measure what?
To get the crank pulley off you can do a few things. Get a chain wrench to hold it with by butting it against something like the lca and go to town on the bolt with a air gun. or you can take off the flywheel cover or the starter, and take a GRADE 8 bolt and put it through the flywheel to keep the motor from turning over. I stress GRADE 8 because you dont want it breaking off in the bell housing.

He meant to measure the belt length for the new pulley. And air tools are definately recommended for those pulleys, in some cases you dont even need bracing, impact guns are great.

Thanks, sorry for the confusion. And I agree with the above advise. :)

see thats what i was lookign for jsut to see i know its a simple bolt but i realized its o nthe crank. but i mthink an impact gun has torque but nto leverage so it shoud work.

i couldnt find a air gun powerfull enough to get my bolt off and evetually just gave up. and sold my pulley.

How to remove the anoying crank pulley... - JDM Universe.com (http://www.jdmuniverse.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27695) if u use impact gun you need a powerful enough compressor.

not that easy. i even did the trick with the screwdriver and a breaker bar. i bent the screwdriver. i finally took it to a mechanic, and he got it off with, i guess, an impact wrench.

well im going to pick up a imapct gun tommorrow. i hope 300 ft lbs is enough. i would hate to have to upgrade to a 675 ft lbs gun or dare i say it the 1800 ft lbs gun.

Ive used one of those big ass things.. with 3" sockets...has 2 friggin handles and
the compressor only had it to 1/2 power.

I doubt a 300 ft/lbs one will get it, but you might luck out. 600+ should get it, but no promises. I have more luck with a good size breaker bar, but you have to have some way to hold the pulley and that just takes some creative thinking sometime. I know on some of the newer motors, the pullyes have an octagon shape on it, so you can take a specials tool and insert it into the hole, and use it to hold the pulley still. If you have access to a good impact gun that can handle it, yes its the easiest way because you don't have to worry about holding it. If you don't have access to a big enough one, you just gotta use your imagination.

You just have to lock up the flywheel like brian said. Its not that hard, if you understand mechanical advantage.

thats why i said use a grade 8 bolt, not a fucking screwdriver, you are lucky it didnt break off and go into your trans. last time I tried to remove one my 550 ft/lb gun wouldnt do it. breaker bars with really long pipes slid over them usually work the best.

I haven't had any luck trying to use the flywheel to hold the pulley. Last time I pulled the pulley off the z6 i stuck 2 bolts in the holes on the pulley itself, got a rod and wedged it between the bolts and the frame, worked like a charm. I didn't even have a huge breaker bar, probably about a 2 ft bar without a cheaper pipe.

well im not so much worried about getting it off im sure i could but i still need to know how to find a smaller belt.

To stop the pulley from turning put the car into 5th and have a friend press the brakes hard... the pulley wont move. I had to take it to a shop with a big impact to get it off.

To get the belt size take a string or wire or anything you can route around the crank pulley and the alt pulley, mearsure how long it is and tell the person at the parts store to get a belt that long. Also with the alts on the d16s it is on a slide so as long as the belt it tight there are a range of sizes that will work.

whay do you need a smaller belt??? just take the part number off the current belt, well wait ur buying a new one? right? cut the old one off (or losen up the altenator) and take it into the parts store and go from there. they should be able to get you a smaller belt if you really think you need it. or you can always throw a washer or two onto the altenator bracket and the belt should fit fine. that's what i had to do with my n1 ctr pulley. one washer and the thing fits.
uh who measures a belt?
uh who measures a belt?

Scotty has the best idea on measuring the belt. A string or something would work prefect, just measure the string when you mark it and take the measurement to the parts store and it should be real quick for them to get a belt considering they are all marked with measurements.
