ok i went bike shopping and found a rather nice nsr150 for sale with 30 000km on it, but ive heard especially the smaller capacity 2 strokes are incredibly unreliable and are always breaking down. is this REALLY that true and has anyone had any experience with 2 strokes before as short distance commuters.

I dont know about that bike in particular, but two strokes are a bit more high strung to begin with and have reliability issues as a result generally speaking. They tend to need rebuilds after so many miles and if that hasnt been done yet youll be doing it more than likely.

depends on the price and how much you'll look after it. proper maintenance and it'll be sweet. thrash it and you'll be throwing cash at it. but that'll be the same for any bike.
i had an apprentice who learnt on an Aprillia RS125 and loved it. not a problem till he had it serviced and they forgot to put oil back in it and he went down on the motorway with a seized engine. poor bugger
