I barely made over $10K last year, but I'm on my way up a little more this year. I work at a grocery store.
I live around St. Louis, MO and we just got hit with some HUGE storms. It knocked out electricity to over 700,000 homes. In the middle of a heat wave of 95+ with 95%+ humidity with NO air conditioning. Tons of businesses and stores are out for at least 5 days. Its terrible. I was at work today and found out that 30 other stores in our chain are out right now and the warehouses took a good hit too. These storms are turning out to be expensive. So, hopefully, I'll be getting overtime this week to go work at other stores and help out. I hope they get the electricity up and going for everyone in the area soon.

We get kinda the same problems down here in Geogria as well.
Except it's hurricanes and not just really bad weather.
I make between 13-16k a year. Work at Publix for anyone who lives around GA or FL.
Hope to change that come next year to buy a house.
I say F-Body meet at my place when I get it.

I would have more money to do stuff like eat if my real estate taxes weren't so friggin high. On top of that, I refuse to send my kids to the local public schools, so I'm going to need a second job to pay for the private schools.
Take it easy 6, took a LONG time to get here... and a LOT of work. You've got awhile, you'll get there.

Our local theivery board.. I mean panel of dumbasses... I mean screwl board... I mean school board just voted to double our school taxes over the next 4 years. That'll take me from 4 grand to 8 grand... add the 1600 for county and local... I'll be moving within the next 4 years, just not sure where.
I would NOT be surprised if I drove down the road one day to see their heads on poles outside the administration offices. (Probably because I'd be partly responsible, but...)

Yeah ours is county, Cook county finally did market re-assesments and aren't refraining from taking any prisoners. Oh, wait a second, in their graciousness the locked the tax rate at 7% but buried the fact that the assesment values went up nearly 50% in some area. sorry boys, keep your peckers outta my wallet :thefinger:
What's really sick, my old house is in one of the communities hardest hit. So, on a 2 bedroom townhouse, yeah, townhouse, in not the best of areas, the property tax payment jumped form 3,100 to around 4,900, where as on the current 5 bedroom house in a far better neighborhood, it went from 3,400 to around 4,100 ish.
Damn I need a beer now. :comprage1

Yeah you guys proably still see some increases because of expanding school districts. I was looking at going southwest to Kane & Will counties, but they're going to be worse off pretty soon. Of 2 friends I have now in the Plainfield area, their taxes went from around $2K to in one case just over $5k in 3 years because they built 4 new schools, and none of the industry that was anticipated has materialized to pick up the bill, so it gets shuffled to the residential taxpayer.

Well... the fucking retards (product of the local public school system) who call themselves the school board decide to 86 3 recently renovated school buildings (with a $7.5 million sports facility at the high school) and buy 144 acres and put up all brand new schools so they can have a "campus".
These fuckrods moving here from Philly and all, are driving up the nunmber of students... they say 1 new student per houshold is the average, and they're building about 1000 houses per year in our district... and the retards are restraining business development so the community can maintain a "country" feel to it. STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID! Instead of adding on to the old schools, or separating the district and building smaller cheaper buildlings, these pompous bastards want to have the newest, prettiest schools so they can feel good about themselves. I wouldn't care one bit if the system was one of the premier school systems in the country, but THEY SUCK! On top of that, the high school birth rate is ridiculous, and teachers get caught fucking the students. (THANK YOU DEMOCRATS FOR LOWERING THE MORAL STANDARDS OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY).
If it were up to me, the school systems wouldn't get one damned cent, teachers salaries included in that, until 100% of the student population was exceeding the current education standards and could basically skip the first year of college. I didn't open a textbook for the first 3 semesters in college and had a 3.4 GPA... thank you Salesianum from the bottom of my heart. If a teacher ever got caught screwing around with a student... DEATH. If anyone got caught embezzelling from a school... DEATH. If more than one student in a 5 year period was not up to the performance standards... FIRED. The student AND teachers would pledge allegiance (at the top oif their lungs) to the American flag and GOD every friggin day and if they diodn't like it they could home school themselves. They would ALL weare their clothing properly, and if they were caught with any PART of their underwear hanging out or clothing not tucked in on school grounds, they would have to go the rest of the day in their under shorts and NOTHING ELSE, shoes and socks included. They would be made to be cleanshaven, and if not I would personally shave them with a straight razor (yes I have one and use it, and it does give a damned good shave). If they started talking street slang, they would be made to read OUT LOUD classical works in their entirety to a live audience (senior citizens for example). If they littered on the school property they would be on clean up duty for a week. If they came to school dirty they would be made to immediately bath in the lockerrooms, supervised by the faculty to make sure they know how to bathe properly. Man I could go on forever....

Around here they can't do that. The assessed value can raise but the Taxable value is only allowed to raise a set percentage per year. (a little bit of my Site Surveying Class coming into good use)
