Hi all .Here is a problem , yesterday on the way home was pouring and i drove thru a puddle of water (pretty deep)about 30 mph, everything was fine,i got home ok.This morning i wanted to start the truck and it won't start . It turns over it seems that it almost catching but that just about it.One time when i kept depressing the gas pedal it finally starts but runs horribly and CE ligh start flashing , as soon i released gas pedal it died .I did check for codes but there is no codes .So what could it be, ignition components got wet? Any suggestions would be very helpfull.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

check to see if your air filter is wet?
Maybe the alt bit the dust? Or maybe the battery did?

Thanks for the advice. I have a little update to a situation.I've spent some 6 hours saturday trying to figure out what is wrong. Here what i've done already with no succes.Air filter is nice clean and dry, blow dry all the electrical connections although there was no water in them, cleaned all the grounds. Checked for spark , it's on all cylinders , but when i took spark plugs out i noticed that all of them on right bank (cyl 1,3,5 ) were nice and clean and the left bank (cyl 2,4,6) were all black.I cleaned them up put them back in and tried to start the truck , it starts after excessive cranking while depressing gas pedal but seems to be running like on 3 cylinders very shaky when kept over 1500 rpms any lover it dies.Next i crawled under the truck and noticed that left bank catalic was very hot and right was cold.So i thought the cat might be clogged or something ,removed a O2 sensor right after cat to check for the flow and started the truck again ,it run a little better without holding a gas pedal but still very rough and only on 250 rpm's.Another possible thing that i thought it might happen was the timing belt skipped .I took it apart and all the marks were perfectly align . I even drain some of the fuel from fuel tank to see if there is a water in it ,because i did put fuel just before it happend, but there was none. At this point i'm clueless what else could be done to troubleshoot this problem and I'm almost 100% sure that whole thing it's not related to the water pond i've crossed.I'ts just the coincidence ,something else causing it. :banghead:
Please help me out here, othervise i have no choice , just to put it back together an tow it to a dealer.

When you dried out all the electrical connections did you also do the ones for the o2 sensors?
Also try swapping the o2 sensors side to side and see if the problem follows it.

Thanks .Nope i did not dried them out, because i did not noticed any water traces in it . Iwill try to swap them out from side to side today ,and see what happens. But don't u think if they got wet while i was going thrue a water the truck would react right away?

HEre is an update to a situation.
Finally i gave up and towed truck to a dealer , they just call me back with the estimate ,which stunt me.
The dealer claims that the fuel pump is shot ,not delivering enough fuel causing engine to missfire on one bank,---- thats one part.
Second part of the story is they are claiming that due to missfire on one bank the head got shot,so they will have to rebuild the head ,and put a new gasket. Estimated cost $3150 +tax:disappoin
What you all thinking are thy trying to take me for a ride?
Did the fuel pump problem have anything to do with bad fuel sending unit?(my gage was malfunctioning for a while)
Missfiring can cause blown head gasket or damage a head?
Just for a record i did have a case of dissapearing coolant ,(98 and 99 did had a series of a bad heads)Maybe thats what they foud out and try to blame missfiring for it?

Update part two
Now I'm 100% sure they wanted to take me for a ride. I had a second conversation with some different guy from dealership. He told me that due to fuel pump not delivering enoug fuel causing missfire, the valve guides got damaged in the head causing no comprassion on one side on all 3 cylinders and the whole head needs to be replace:screwy: .
He offered me "good" deal. To save me some money they were going to put an used head in ,wchich he claims came from a vehicle with only 32k on it.
That's a firts time i heard the dealership is installing used parts.
I 'm going to pick the truck up from them ripp offs today and change the fuel pump myself , wchich i think is the only problem .

Find an import mechanic - stay away from dealerships as much as possible.
FWIW - not what you want to hear, but when the 1st headgasket went on my 22RE Toyota P/up, an engine famous for headgasket failures, pretty much same symptoms, slightly missing coolant, then one day it wouldn't start at all, we, too, initially traced it to a bad fuel pump as there were no other issues - put in fuel pump with new gas, still no go.
Culprit, head cut loose and dumped antifreeze into the bearings, engine completely seized.
Hope you have MUCH better luck, keep us posted.

Update part three
Picked up the truck from a dealership, partially dissasembled. They were right about the lack of compression on one bank ,I've performed the test myself just to be sure, here is what i've got.
Cyl #1--130 psi
Cyl#2--210 psi
Cyl#3--132 psi
Cyl#4--210 psi
Cyl#5--129 psi
Cyl#6--208 psi
I wonder why compression is around 80 psi lower on one bank on all three cylinders 1,3,5,what could cause that?:screwy:
Last night teared engine apart , what i noticed is in intake plenum all the ports going to 2,4,6 cylinders were all wet ,considered normal, and ports on 1,3,5 side were all dry ,covered with some brownisch dusty looking deposit.Again, what could have cause that?Lack of fuel?
Took me about 2.5 hours to pull the head off ,i will drop it at the machine shop for them to check it out, eventuly rebuild it.
My suspicious is that maybe the valve seats are damaged, cause i doubt there might be something wrong with the pistons rings.
Let me know what you guys think?
All coments are welcome. Thanks in advance.
Mike.

Update
Had the head checked out ,it turn out that not only valve seats are damaged but it's cracked too.:shakehead
Machine shop guy offered me replacement head ready to install with cams and adjusted valves for only $815 ( $540+ $275 core, cause my is cracked).
Or i found used head on the junk yard for $200 ( milage unknown).
I'm in a limbo what to do, a lot of many(for me) for guaranteed head,or cheap with 50/50 chance that it will work.Hmmm

Hi,
I think I'd go with the new head option, at least you'll have a guarantee.
The junkyard option would probably cost you more in the long run .....

OK guys
Finally put the zu back together.
Took my chance ,went with the junk yard head couldn't afford rebulid one $810 vrs. $200. While putting it together i also replace whole bunch of other parts like thermostat, all the small hoses under intake, heater hoses ,vacuum ,fuel pressure regulator ,not mentioning all the gaskets, and also whole fuel pump.Spent a lot off $$$$.Everything went smooth to the point of hooking up an EGR tube to the intake.I've must put it a little croocket(not much room in there) and while screwing it in cracked intake where the tube goes :banghead: .Luckilly i was able to locate an intake on the junk yard not far from where i live for fairly cheap price $ 75 bucks:) .This time i was extra carefull installing the tube and everything else ,didn't want to take any more steps back.
Timing alightment was a little PITA , especially on the" new "head ( had to keep turning sprocket some 8 turns to finnaly spring ond align with mark on vc)
Anyway some 1/2 hour later it was ready to be fired up.
Crossed my fingers and turn the key .It fired right up:) . I let it run for a while and check for any leaks there was none.Drove test it .
My Zu runs smooth like a silk , better than ever before.
Total repair cost in parts (head ,gaskets ,hoses ,Fuel pump , regulator, all new timing components and some more stuff ) was around $ 1300 + $0 in my own labor. Not bad comparing to dealer estimate off $3150.
Thanks guys for all the replies and advices. See you on the road:grinno: .
