I originally had pictures of the XP5 (see hear (http://www.plus4.freeserve.co.uk/macf1/mac013.jpg) and hear (http://www.plus4.freeserve.co.uk/macf1/mac011.jpg)), without the decals on the lower side of the car but then i saw a video with the XP5 which had the side decals on the car saying "XP5" (see hear (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-1251269809245339526&q=mclaren+f1)), so was wondering on the original XP5 were the decals removed at a later date and sold on to a customer or are these cars totally different? If someone could provide with with some more information on this, i would be very grateful, thanks, Brad

P.S if anyone has still pictures of the XP5 with the XP5 decals still on the car could someone post them on this forum or the link to the picture, thanks

At the 3:18 mark: "Can you hear the turbo whistling?" - Mika.

Um...is he serious? He, of all people, should at least know the F1 isn't turbocharged, wow.

yeah I know... I'm a mika fan, but cringe everytime I hear that...

lol, I couldn't stop making fun of Mika ever since he said that... He's a talented driver and all but he should know better.

bradman60, the first photo is not of XP5, I believe that first shot is still an unidentified car.

Interesting, but i have researched some information and most sources are saying that the F1 XP5 Prototype is easily recognisable because of the number plate "K8 MCL". what do you this of this Peloton25? and do you have any still images with the XP5 writing on the side of the F1? thanks

I belive the 1st pic is XP5. I think more pics from that set were released and it is wearing K8 MCL

I'm sure K8 MCL has been used on a number of Mclaren cars while in factory ownership, sort of like a trade plate but not quite. Think it has been used on a Green and a Blue car unless that is just a trick of the lighting.
No doubt Poleteon25 will know for certain.

Just a trick of the lighting. It has only been used on XP5. It does appear green, blue, even black in different lighting

Sorry I'm late to this party - I went to see the Moto GP race at Laguna Seca this weekend. :naughty:

For starters, the "turbo whistling" comment is explained by AussieSlacker here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3240299&postcount=31) who saw the full original video.

This man is partially correct. The first photo is not XP5, but I have figured out which car it is. You're looking at an early shot of #020. You can just barely make out the "I3 MAC" plate in this rear angle:

Also it's certainly not uncommon to find this F1 parked in a racing paddock amongst motorhomes.

The second shot that was linked is XP5. I really don't know the specifics on the decals. I know the car has had at least two refits through its life so the stickers may have come and went from time to time. Comparing the most recent shots of XP5 - when it was displayed in the McLaren Showroom on Park Lane it had very light grey stickers on the flanks. Later shots taken of it inside the McLaren Customer Care facility show it without any stickers.
