I have a 99 Taurus, and recently the windshield wipers just started coming on or no reason. seems to be just random. I dont have to be touching anything, or even driving. Anyone have any ideas?

Does the ignition switch have to in the (on) or (run) positions for this to happen?? You don't really specify one way or another.. It could be one of several things, the easiest to do would be the multi-function switch that controls the wipers, however it could be a relay, the gem module, a wiring issue, motor issue, any of several... there's some people on here who are pretty good with the electrical end of things, maybe one will post something more detailed.. if it's happening with the ignition off, then that's a whole other ball of wax, never heard of that though.. anything is possible with electrical circuits..

I think Ford may have had a recall on that. Go here (http://www.ford.com/en/vehicles/owners/recalls/default.htm#ford) and enter your VIN and it will show you all recalls for your vehicle.

The ignition has to be on for it to happen. Doesnt have to be running though. It even happens when its in the accy. position. I'll start by checking the switch.

If you would like a copy of the checkout procedure for the multifunction switch, private message me with an e-mail address that can accept PDF attachments and I will e-mail the steps to you.

My 16-yr-old just inherited a '99 Taurus from an elderly relative, who warned us that the wiper blades were "haunted" and so we're wondering if you could send us the checkout procedure for the multifunction switch, too? Thanks!
