How to tow a '98 GC

I want to tow my 1998 GC behind our motorhome. What is the best way to do this? Can the GC be towed flat (all four wheels on the road) or will it need to be on a dolly or a full trailer?

I think that info is in the owners manual.

In my 98 JGC book on page 153 states:

RECREATIONAL TOWING (BEHIND MOTOR HOME, ETC.)

4X4 Vehicles

CAUTION! Internal damage to transfer case will occur if a front or rear wheel lift is used when recreational towing.

Use the following procedure to prepare your vehicle for towing.

CAUTION! It is necessary to follow these steps to be certian that the transfer case is fully in N (Neutral) before recreational towing to prevent damage to internal parts.

1. Shift transmission into Neutral.

2. Shift transfer case lever to Neutral. All 4WD indicator lights and tires in the vehicle outline will turn off.

3. Shift automatic transmission into drive and make shure there is no vehicle movement. (note from me. there shuold have been a line before #1 telling you to start the engine).

4. Turn ignition key to the unlock OFF position to prevent steering column from locking.

WARNING! With the transfer case in Neutral position, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly. The parking brake should always be applied when the drive is not in the vehicle.

6. Attach vehicle to the tow vehicle with tow bar.

CAUTION! Do not use a bumper mounted clamp-on towbar on your vehicle. The bumper face will be damaged.

CAUTION! Do not disconnect rear prop shaft because fluid will leak from the transfer case and damage internal parts.

2-Wheel-Drive Vehicles

In recreational towing, remove the rear driveshaft and place a cover plug on the rear of the transmission to retain fluid. Place the shift selector in park. Before driving replace the rear drive shaft and check the automatic transmission for proper fluid level.

I would add if I may. For safety.

I'd drive to the rear of and hook up to the motor home first. This way you could test the hookup by rocking the jeep abit and also once you put the transfer case in Neutral (on a 4X4) or drop the drive shaft ( for the 2 wheel drives) there is way less for a chance on the jeep rolling off with no one in it. Seen that happen.

Also, be sure the the key is in the OFF not LOCK or the RUN position. Seen that too. The front wheels were turned and locked and the guy was going down the road tires just smoking. Blew 1 and flat spotted the other before he stopped.

Another guy ran the battery dead because he had it on RUN.

And another guy forgot to release his parking brake.

And another, some how unhooked on a hill but didn't set the brake and take the transfer out of Neutral. It rolled down the hill and broad sided another car.:banghead:

I want some info on towing a 01 cavaloier. Can I mount towbar to bumper or do I need to buy those expensive baseplates.
