Hello I need your help, I have a 90 88 and the cooling fans only come on with the a/c. I have checked both fans, they work, and replaced the coolant sensor. the engine will get up to 220 and no cooling fan. I ran a jumper wire to the low speed fan relay and the fan works but, kicked a code 26. what else turns the fan on. burning up in az.

Welcome to AF, these fans will not be commanded to turn on till 224-226 degrees, so recheck with a scanner before going into this unnecessarily, code 26 was the quad driver, the pcm didn't like you powering the fans manually..

Hello and thanks for the response. I am old school and do not doubt you, but, isn't 226 almost to late. at what point do the heads crack. I am afraid to drive it if the fans do not come on. I just disconnected the coolant sensor and the low speed fan is on but it kicked the check engine light for the sensor, Is there any other way to get the fans to work at a lower temp? thank you in advance

The pcm is programmed to turn them on at that temp, normal in modern vehicles, no real way to change this without hard wiring for manual operation.
