A friend is selling a decent 91 GSX for 1,000. All it needs to run is a fuel pump. I'm thinking about it. It's got a nice body, bad paint, and a 60k original motor. I can't decide if I would return my GST to stock, and put all the mods that fit on the GSX, or if I would use the GSX as a daily and get my GST making a lot more power. I have around 2k saved up. It was going to a wideband, cams, and paint plus finishing the 97 conversion. I could have that or another DSM. Can't make up my mind.

I'd keep the GST stock and a daily driver. Looks better plus with decent power, you lose a lot of traction.

The GSX will be faster due to the AWD, they are also lighter than 2g's. You could buy the GSX and still use some money to do the 97+ conversion on the GST, then use it for a daily driver and mod the GSX when you get more money. Its nice having 2 cars.

Yeah I like this idea, but I forgot to metion the GSX for sale is an auto. That's kind of iffy for me. It would mainly be a track car, so it's not a big deal.

Nah, the guy selling it a DSM'er friend of mine who could easily put the fuel pump in himself. He was just trying to hook me up cause I told him how bad I want AWD

use the gsx auto for DD, Unless you can swap 5 speed on it, but any way, that gsx is low mile, If it good price I do say" go for it !! ".

I say you use the GSX for your DD. You've already gotten your GST so far along that it would suck to have to start over. Not all of your parts are transferrable anyway so you'd end up having to buy some things over again. I'd sink the money into the GST. Just because it is FWD doesn't mean it can't be a track car.

I don't know if you ever thought about this, but you could swap motors with that '91 and then be running a 6 bolt. Swap the 7 bolt into the '91 from your GST and then use it as a DD, and mod the shit outa the GST. :2cents:

My three choices:

-Buy the GSX, fix it and use it as a DD, put the rest into the GST, or save the money w/e.

-Buy GSX and use it as a drag car (the auto tranny could be built and used to your advantage), keep GST as DD.

-Dump all 2k into the GST

Seems like too much work if ya ask me... A 6 bolt swap is ok, but I wouldn't when theres nothin wrong with his 7 bolt now.

If you are going to be using the GSX mainly for a track car, I would mod the hell out of that. Auto DSM trannys have been running low 10's with only a shift kit added to it. They cut consistant 1.4-1.5 60' times.

Think about this. If you are going to race the GST, you will need slicks, a better clutch due to traction and more power the 2100# pressure plate isnt going to hold it. Suspension, to lower the center of gravity over the front end to get better traction. Also add an LSD. With all that, you still probably wont see much better than a 1.7 60' time and its going to take a hell of a lot more power to run the same times.

Sure, 5spd is much more fun. But its more expensive also. I've been thinking of swapping an auto tranny in my talon instead of spending $1500 on a clutch and another couple grand for a built tranny. You can get a built auto tranny and high stall tq converter for less than $2k and wont have to do shit to it again. You dont even have to get a built tranny to run a 10 on it. The only reason I havent done it yet is because it takes more skill in driving to be consistant and run good times.

Hmm.. I like what he just said. hehe. There are plenty of people hitting sweet times in autos, especially the ones from the ipttrans.com DSM forums!

thanks guys you just made my decision 100 times harder with the extra ideas ;)

I dunno I just love these cars, owning both would be having the best of both worlds. Good points by everyone though, hmmmm....

The only thing holding me from buying it 2morrow is that I'm not done with the GST. It still needs cams, smim, paint, lots more lovin on the body etc.

Thanks I appreciate it, but I have most of my stock parts.

The more I think about it though, I don't want to mod this car back to stock. It took a lot of sweat and blood to make it this way and it was a really good learning process. Almost like I'm betraying my car after what she's given me. This is me right now. :banghead:

Oh well at least its a tuff decision between two good things, ie build a monster in a gsx or gst and have a daily in either one... At least your not forced to choose between two bad things like thor.

Go for it. Buy the GSX for a DD and park the GST for awhile and get done to it what you want. That way you'll always have one to drive, even if the other breaks down.

I say buy it and drive it around for awhile and think about what you want to as far as what car to make your DD. If I could afford the insurance for 2 cars, I'd defiantly get it. Just insurance is such a scam these days. I hate it. Think of it this way, if you get it, once your done college and all that, you can get yourself an evo and open your garage to a 1g awd, 2g gst, and new evo! Now thats livin the life...haha

Thats whats nice about living in Minnesota. Insurance covers you, for whatever car you are driving. So I can put insurance on my truck not my DSM but yet my DSM is covered if I am driving it.

They tried to screw me by giving me a no insurance ticket, I just went to court and the judge threw it out. If you have insurance on 1 vehicle, no matter how many vehicles you have, they are all covered if you are the driver. Same goes with motorcycles. Although if you have insurance on a bike, only bikes are covered. (due to bikes being a lot cheaper for insuance) Although if you have a car/truck that is insured, any bike that you drive is covered also. Best thing MN insurance companies ever did.

I'd say get the car no matter what. Build your GST the way you want it while you daily drive the 1g, then once the GST is done, daily drive that and build the 1g if you want. Either that or keep using the 1g for a daily driver and make the GST really nice.
