Keyless Remote Lock only unlocks Driver door.

All of the sudden, in my 2002 Passat... the keyless entry stopped working for all doors except the drivers. THe trunk works too... But usually when you press the unlock button twice it unlocks all doors. It is only unlocking one. But if you unlock all the doors, the keyless lock button locks all doors. I spoke with the dealer, he said maybe the actuators in the door/lock mechanism may be bad... but very highly unlikely all 3 at same time. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. Has anyone gone through this before? Maybe it is a problem with the car's remote system understanding the signals from the remote? Thanks in advance.

Try locking car with key, this, as I understand, will reprogram the remote.

That's what I've always heard too. Back when we leased our '03s, the dealer said if the battery gets low in the remote, or you lock/unlock frequently at the limit of the remote's range (which shrinks with time in my experience), it can start acting up like you are describing, and eventually lose all programming. He did not specifically say that the above would work, but he did say to use the key, and never mentioned bringing it in for reprogramming. Never had it happen to me, though, so never actually had to try it.

It's easy, and most important--free.

I tried the free reprogramming method you are talking about, i followed the manual to a T... didn't work. Ugggg. Frustrating... We've got a baby on the way, and this needs to be fixed. Perfect timing!:banghead:

Try changing the batteries in the remote.

I'll try it, it is worth the couple dollars, but the likelyhood of both remotes going bad at the exact time is crazy. We'll see.
Thanks.
Thanks.

True, but you'll eliminate possible problems first which are also cheap.

to reprogram the remote, you have to have 1 key in the ignition in the on position, and have the one you are programming out and put it in the driver's door and turn it to the right 2 times, then back to the left 2 times, then hit unlock and lock on the remote while its still in the door. it should beep when you hit lock if you did it correctly, and that programs the remote. do you have a sunroof? if you do, you might want to make sure the drains didnt clog up and cause water to get in the car, if the driver's floor gets soaked the water can get in the comfort control module which is under the driver's side carpet and that can cause screwy things to happen.

Battery in remotes may need contacts cleaned or just replace them if testing low. I had to do this for my remotes and they are working fine.
