Hey I just inherited this User Name and stuff on this forum from my brother. So you might seem me around here from time to time now. I have a 1997 VR4 and I was thinking about getting the HKS dual tip exhaust from stillen because it is only $600 and I heard it is nice and mellow, yanno not to over aggressive unless it is wide open. Now All I need is to find out what down pipe I should use with it. My top two choices are either the stillen downpipe but I have heard of fitting issues from the FAQ, and my other option is the new Tanabe downpipe. What do you guys think? I don't want anything too loud or obnoxious sounding. Does anyone have any sound clips of how the HKS sounds, or any reviews of it by the way, cause I can't find anything. I am open for any opinions or advice. Thanks for reading and I look foward to any info.

Why are those your only two options?
Why not ATR or e2k?
The link in the FAQ has good opinions, I went with ATR. They might have gone out of business, so they may be harder to find, plus they are $400, but they are worth it. Stillen is a hit or miss, some have no fitment issues, some do.

If i were you i would go on ebay and buy one of there downpipes. I bought mine there a few weeks ago and its awsome and nice qaulity. They give you all the gaskets and it fits like a glove.

Then you sir are lucky, because ebay downpipes have 2 common things going for them.
Fitment issues and welds that break over time. You apparenlty lucked out with the fitment, hopefully the welds hold. Be wary of ebay knockoffs.

Well those were my only two options because stillen was going to cut me a deal since I am buying the exhaust from them already and the intake. I heard about the ATR one and I am very intrigued. The Tanabe one is the one Dynamic Racing recommended highly too me.I was even told the Tanabe one you can still run a cat or there is the option of using a test pipe that is included. I just don't want a pipe that is going to set of my check engine light, and the guys at stillen told me they too that into consideration and it wouldn't. Anyways going on about the HKS cat back exhaust, does any one have any experience or knowledge about it that they are willing to spare? By the way thanks for the replies I appreciate it.

The Stillen dp eliminates the main cat and the front precat...it will most definantly cause CELs....so I don't know why teh Stillen guys would tell you that. Anything DR recommends, I would highly consider. They have made it abundantly clear they know these cars and have great customer service.
There is also the 3sx dp:

Yeah see, I was talking to Stillen on the phone and they said it wouldn't, I guess the guy didn't know what he was talking about. Anyway Thanks for the info, I was really interested in the tanabe one but it is like $500+ just for the downpipe O_O. I mean that is almost as much as I am getting the whole HKS exhaust for. I'll research more on that ATR one or the 3sx one though, thanks for the help.
