1990 3.8 crank sensor

Does anyone know if a crank sensor will function when engine cool, but fail when engine is warmed up? Starts and runs great when cool, no fire when hot! Coil pak,engine mod, comp all good. Once crank sensor bad, always bad?

Typical symptom for cps, see if you have cranking rpms when this happens if you can get a scanner on it, if none suspect the cps.

Yes, Crank sensors can fail at operating temps. An easy way to check this is to let the engine warm up and allow for some of the sypmtoms to occur. Next, dump a bucket of cool water on the sensor. If the problems go away, then you definately have a faulty crank sensor.

I assume that a cps will function when engine is cold as it has prevented me from starting my car when cold. So I would conclude that if it malfunctions and prevents the car from starting, it would stand to reason that it functions when cold.

This is true! It can fail when the temp is high or low. With most electrical devices, they seem to fail when the temperature is high.

Thanks everyone for the advise! I ran some water on the sensor and wa-la, it started right up! Now I can look forward to putting or attempting to put a new one on there! I think I read somewhere that it takes 22mm bolts for this 3.8 for the HM puller. Thanks again

Crank bolt is 24mm or 15/16 I believe. Probably will need an impact gun here also.
