Fuel Pump/Relay- Help!!

The fuel pump relay on my 97 c/k (5.7L) keeps blowing. It is getting very hot and I can even see that the contacts are beginning to melt.

I spoke to my mechanic and he told me that I would need to get the fuel pump replaced to fix this problem. He just replaced the fuel pump in this truck just over a year ago and it cost me a pretty penny. Is his diagnosis accurate? Any help is much appreciated.

I'd check for a short in the wireing first. There could be a pinched wire that finally wore through from the last replacement.
