I'll never buy another Altima

I've owned an '83 & '94 Sentra. The engines, tranny and AC were bullet proof. With manual locks and windows, very easy and cheap to fix. The only reason why they didn't live past 200k was because the first one was totaled and the second one I put 50k hwy miles in excess of 50mph and the gaskets couldn't take it. I'm sure if I would have replaced them the '94 would still be around today, 2yrs later. Both were over 190k.

The Altima, '01, GXE "special edition" is a special pain in the arse. @ 17,100miles, the car wouldn't start in cold weather. Wound up replacing the whole stinking computer. Front passenger window regulator stripped and replaced it. Now some tie rods are loose in the front end and I need new bushings. Current mileage on the Altima is 23,200+.

A friend of the family purchased the exact same car but a different color. Her AC went out and it has 41,000 miles on it and she's replaced her left front CV axle.

I know Nissan is getting better interiors, but I'd gladly trade the "nicer" interiors for the old-school bullet proof mechanics of the car any day. Stinking car.:disappoin

My wife had a '98 Neon that gave her less problems with 70k when it was traded in for the Civic.

Those older nissan engines were unbeatable. my dad had an 86 nissan truck, and that thing ran forever. I havent heard many problems with the newer nissan engines, but apperantly they arnt as good.

The motor and transmission itself runs like a dream...except for the short in the computer. It's everything else that's the problem.

My dad had an '88 Nissan pick-up too. That compact long-bed truck. He bought it with 130k+ miles on it in '91, put 65k on it by 93 when he sold it because we moved. It never had a single problem. Not one. He used it at his part time job delivery pizzas to help pay for my sister's and my college. It was a stick and he pops the clutch and the truck took the beating and never once complained...

I'd loved to get a pick-up like that! Help peole when they move, deliver food from the church to people, throw lawn mowers etc in the back and cut some old folks lawns and not charge them. It would be a perfect truck for that and not kill you on gas either!

Last week, the front in was shaking really badly. It was slight for about a year and became near undrivable. The automotive shops lifts it up and shows me where the front right tie rods were bent and loose and had also busted the bushings.

$277.83 with taxes to get it replaced. Worst part is that I'm still making payments on this stupid thing.

you should have never payed for your window to be fix'd , there is a recall on all 4 window regulators for your car. go back to the dealer or call nissan .. get your money back

You can't blame bent tie rods on Nissan. How could you drive that way for a year and not have it checked out? I wonder what your front tires look like?

I own a 98 with 155k and have never replaced any suspension parts, just an alternator, thermostat and the emmission vaccuum motor near the fuel tank.

i have a 01 sentra, and so far no problems. only thing to replace was the spark plugs at 100k. no problems at all toward anything from nissan. other people with 00+ nissan altimas love the car, as they mantinance it regualry. maybe its just how u drive the car. post poneing on to check why a car feels wierd, will just create more problems.

i've got a 97 altima, got it in 2002 with 84k, now it's got 200k. Other than repairs due to location and job (delivering pizza in mtns.) no extreme problems. Considering everything i have put my car through, it's holding up phenominally well. gas mileage better now then when car was purchased. maybe you just got a lemon...
