A Little Help Here

I've been thinking of getting a motorcycle and was wondering if I was to big to fit on a beginer bike. I'm 6"3'-6"4'. Can I even fit on a Harley? I am thinking ahead of time b/c I still have 1 yr before I can even drive. So is it a waste of time to even research a motorcycle I could afford, let alone fit on? So please a little help would be greatly appreciated!

Depends what you consider a beginner bike...the only critical thing in bike size is that you can plant your feet on the ground when stopped (not a problem on any bike for you, obviously) and that you are comfortable in the riding position...that presents a problem on many bikes at your size...most smaller cruisers (Harley style) tend to feel cramped to taller riders, unless you get forward controls, and then it's all good.

I couldn't tell you what's roomy and what's not as far as sportbikes, they all look silly and uncomfortable to me...:lol: ...but I look like a gorilla humping a football to them (so I'm told):rofl:

Plenty of people your height start on 500s and even 250. Considering you can't even drive a car yet.. I would not even be thinking about 600 cc bikes.

Before you get a bike, get a car and drive around for a year. Knowledge and experience of traffic is crucial to survive in the street. However, if you're interested in riding early, and got some money to dispense, I think you can pick up 125 cc bikes or pocket bikes, or dirtbikes, it will pay dividends when you start riding the big bikes.

I would not even be thinking about 600 cc bikes.

Drive a car first. Learn how to deal with traffic behind the safety on a big cage of aluminum and fiberglass. Take the MSF course.. get some offroad (dirtbike, etc) experience if you can (I didn't).

For a strong, large person, even an 883 Sporty would be a good bike to start on, depending on the learning curve...most of the people I know (including myself) started on bikes over 500cc, me on a KAW 750 LTD, had to ride it across town in heavy traffic from the dealer after previously riding a 185 Suzuki for about 20 minutes in an open field and deciding I wanted a bike...boy, talk about trials by fire...surprised I made it alive. Never looked back, though...

I think the best learner bikes are the 80's Jap standards, 400-650cc, always plentiful and cheap and forgiving of beginner shifting and drops and flops...cheap to fix and insure...etc..

no no no for your size go straight for a 'Busa. who needs a licence.....


mate, i'm 6"4 and i started on a 250 sports. its all relative. you will fit on any bike unless you can't bend in the normal places.
