Ok so my wife wrecked her car back in december and her parents bought us a 99 intrepid (gee thanks) and we have had nothing but problems.. Her dad had to replace the engine with a jasper one right off the bat.. the A/C doesnt work, I am pretty sure due to a freon leak. A couple weeks ago after an oil change the oil light comes on even though the oil level is perfect, it only comes on when the car is idling. and No it seems to over heat I put coolant in it lastnight and it seems to be ok as long as the car is being driving but if its not moving it heats up.. driving with the heat on sometimes helps.. also there is a code saying that there is a minor evaporation leak detected..
so i pose the following questions for ANYONE that may be able to help.
1. How can i check for a freon leak?
2. What do you suggest about the oil light?
3. Anyone know whats up with the overheating issue?
4. Where should i start checking for the evaporation leak?
please please help

For the freon leak, auto parts stores sell freon with dye in it, usually red. A big leak you can see right away. For a small leak, you may need a blacklight to see it.
You don't say what the code is for the evaporation leak. My experience is; when I filled the gas tank with the engine running, it set a code. After driving for a while, the code went away.

Your overheating and a/c problems might be related. if you search the forum there are threads addressing the failure of the left cooling fan, which apparently can cause a/c to malfunction. Might not be your problem, but best way to start is watch your fans to see if both turn on when hot and idleing. Our 99 has a problem with a/c but that was not it. Only way to tell is with guages.... As for your oil light that is a regular problem on here too. if you research it you will find it is most likely a cheap fix,a connector (I think) to the sending unit, been waiting for ours to do this.... Some strong advice, if you are not already doing this, would suggest synthetic oil, such as Mobil 5-30, as it keeps these engines from sludging, which helped kill your old motor, along with the timing chain most likely.. unless Jasper won't allow it. They are strict on warranties to hear others talk. Here is one thread on the oil light.

I had my oil light on only at idle in gear. replaced the oil sending unit (located by the oil filter 3.3l)for around 15$ and took care of the problem

I did hear the warranty on the Jasper,Change the oil every 3,000 miles, not before or after.Keep the reciepts for every oil change. If the 2.7 ever blows up,convert to a 3.2 or a 3.5 which last longer with more power.
