I have a 92 Ranger & just recently had my a/c fixed. I had the system retrofitted to R-134a & than had the compressor, orfice tube & drier replaced with brand new ones. However when I bought the truck, the air did not work, so I am not sure how good it ever worked in the truck. I work midnights, so I'm not up doing the heat of the day to drive the truck, however in the early evening when its about 85-90 degrees outside, the A/C is only blowing out at about 60-65 degrees & it stops working when sitting still, it does best when moving at a steady speed. My question is, is this normal for a 92 Ranger, or is there something wrong most likely. Being that I've never had working air in it before & have never owned a Ranger before, I'm not sure what the normal operation for a 92 Ranger A/C is. Someone please let me know if sounds normal or not.

i have a 92 ford ranger xcab 4x4 it does the samething on mine. the air works good when the motor is cold ut after it heats up. the air isn't much better. i think it has something to do with the cooling system.

Thanks for your reply. After having to take several trips out of town with it doing the the heat of the day I had no choice but to go ahead & take it back to the shop to have it looked it, because after about 30-45 minutes of the a/c running, it stopped blowing cold or cool & is blowing pure hot air, however the compressor is staying on as if its not low on coolant & once once you shut the truck off & let the motor cool, than it would air would be cold again, so I know that isn't normal. Hopefully they'll get it figured out & fixed, because after paying a little over $600 for a/c repairs, I expect to have my a/c working better than only having semi-cold air for 30 minutes at a time, before it goes to hot air.

I got it back from the shop Friday evening, however did not post a reply until now to have some time to check it out & see how its working. They claimed the orifice tube was clogged up, so they replaced it under warranty as that was one the things they replaced when they did everything. I also took it to the car wash & used the high pressure water to clean the a/c condensor coil behind the grill, to get rid of any bugs keeping the outside air from flowing through. The air is blowing better now than ever before. Its nice Ice Cold, but its cool enough to keep me from sweating & it does keep me fairly comfortable in the 100 degrees & heat index of 115. I wish it blew ice cold like my Nissan Altima, however these older Rangers will probably never do that. Atleast I do have enough cool air to where I can drive it in the heat of the day now. It doesn't stop blowing cool air after 30-45 minutes & it still blows cool now when stopped at a stop light.
