1/25 scale DSM build, need some reference

Hi, I don't own a dsm (wish I did) but I'm building a 1/25 2G with opening doors and rear hatch out of a kit that doesn't have those features. I need some reference pics for building the door jambs, do you think you could help me out?

I need pics of the door jams, and a few pics of the open door itself. Mainly I need pics that show where the sheet metal ends and the interior trim and panels begin. Some similar shots of the hatch would be helpful. Thanks.

BTW, if anyone is intersted, I'm building some scale goodies for it, like 16G turbo, SBR tubular turbo mani, Spearco FMIC (big one), Magnus sheetmetal intake, and a NOS direct port N2O system, as well as a Cobra N2O IC spray bar. That's the start of the list... :naughty:

Thanks for any help you can get me, I'd be happy to show pics of my progress!

I wanna see progress pics. I remember you posting a thread about this a long time ago and wanna see how far you are now.

Um, you might be disappointed, I'm one of the slowest model builders ever to walk the earth. :banghead: :grinno: I'll try to get some pics of what I do have, get you link to my photobucket. (But only if I get some reference in return! :grinno: just kiddin :screwy: ) Note: This is the first of 2 I plan to build. This one gets the show car treatment with a body kit, verticals, custom paint, etc. (It's kind of a test for me, to see if I can pull of some of the more radical modifications). The second one will recieve all of the engine goodies this one has, but I'll be making the stock body kit for it, go total sleeper. :naughty: :smokin: :evillol:

I'll get you pictures of my car, even though its kinda tore apart right now. Just gimme a list of each of the things you need and I will try to get it on here in the next few days for ya.

I remember this from last year. You must not have gotten very far but I'm sure it will be badass when it's done.

Oh, this is great! I just realized you have a TSi, my build is a GSX. If it's torn apart, that's all the better, I need up close shots, I already have tons of engine bay shots. Um, OK: a list.

Exterior
-Entire perimeter of door jambs, sides of opened door and panels
-Opened rear hatch

Interior
-Under dash on both sides
-Shot of trunk/rear hatch area with hatch open, with package shelf up, down
-A good few shots of there rear seats (building them from scratch for the sleeper model)
-Looking up @ sunroof, rear view mirror, sun visors from front seats

Engine
-Backside of engine block
-A few shots of the firewall (engine in, engine out?)
-a close up of the engine mount on the belt/accessory side of the engine
-Various shots of components, wiring or plumbing diagrams would be especially helpful
-Close ups of tranny, output connection- (sorry, I just recieved some bad news and can't think in technical terms) -where the front axles bolt up to the front differential

Chassis
-Shot of undercarriage, from under a lift or something
-Close up of both ends of the suspension, the engine cradle
-close up of rear differential
-close up shot of brakes, a brake line diagram would be helpful

That should be enough, for now LOL. I'm not expecting any one person to get these all, but what ever you can chip in please do. Or if you know of a site or thread that has close ups and such, please post a link. There was a well-documented tear down and rebuild on TampaBayDSM.org before it became a forum, haven't been able to find it since. I use the engine bay walk through, very helpful. DSMtuners has some good installation tutorials that sometimes have what I'm looking for. And there's always Google. But somehow, I haven't gathered ALL the pics I'd like. So anything you can post or point me to will be much appreciated and more than likely useful. Thanks

I'll try and post some mini-parts tomorrow, some are still in the building stages and won't look completely finished. But you'll get the idea...

I hate models. My dad tried to get me into them when I was young. I would always blow them up with fireworks. My brother builds NASCAR models. My Dad builds planes. He finishes like 3 a week. All professional (sometimes) and shit. I just can't see it. If I'm building something, I want it to do something (like blow up!!)

Man I love models. I kinda use them as a way to express my automotive creativity. I even built a replica of my real car.

I always lose the little pieces, then get frusterated and quit. And I always get that glue shit all over my fingers and everything I touch after that.

Didn't you put a pic up of an engine you made? I wanna see that pic again if you still have it.

OK guys, here is the major stuff I have done so far:

http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/?sc=6
There are discriptions posted as to what you're seeing, feel free to ask questions and browse the rest of my photobucket... Sorry about the picture quality (old school digital, with floppies!) and they really aren't in any particular order.

This will be a very, very long work in progress. Much to do, much to learn. This is my first time do many of the modifications, such as modifying body kits, using putty, etc.

Enjoy! And about those pictures... LOL

Blackcrow64
07-18-2006, 08:16 PM
Wow... How the hell do you make some of those things so small? You should make my firebird for me.

daklunk
07-18-2006, 08:45 PM
You like?

I think I will also need a couple pics of where the axles, control arms, rotors, and wheel hubs are in relation to each other and everything else. Might help me figure out how to mount the rear wheels... and the front ones.

Thanks for the interest!

Are you asking me this? I actually have a stock engine tore out right now and just sitting there if you need any pictures of that.

daklunk
07-18-2006, 10:19 PM
Yeah, that'd be great. Around the block, the thermostat, etc. Areas you might not see glancing at it sitting in the engine bay...

gthompson, could you get a good side profile of your red Eclipse? I want to check out those graphics, as I'm still undecided as far as paint goes... I only know it will be dark metallic blue and bright silver....

Nadda? Anyone havea chance to take some pics over teh weekend?

Anyway, a little progress:

These are the cam gears I made for it. They look tiny! Better to leave those for a B16 or something...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/Small_gears.jpg

Here are the bigger, badder, better ones I made for it. Looks a lot better, fills up more space and looks more realistic. (Yes bolts are in the wrong place, I know, but these were crankshaft pulleys before I converted them)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/SomeBiggergears_2.jpg

And here are 2 problem I've run into that you guys could help me with. First of all, this is the tranny I'm modifying to look more like the real deal. The tan stuff is hobby putty. I have no idea what the space within the red box looks like, never seen it from that angle. Anybody have a pic or in the position for a pic? And in the blue box, that is where I think the left axle comes out of. If that's not it, could you tell me where?
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/TrannyQ.jpg

The second problem is a clearance issue between the oil filter unit, alternator, and p/s pump. Could someone get a good close up picture of the oil filter unit, not so much of the filter itslef, but the aluminum part that directs the oil to the filter. And then could someone also measure in inches the distance between the alternator and p/s pulleys? And if someone has time to spare, how's about a shot of the pump itself and the alternator?

OK, thanks guys, Hope you're enjoyin' this little build of mine....

I'm not sure, once upon a time on here somone posted a pic of a tiny model of a 4G63. If someone has the pic still, will you post it up.

07-24-2006, 01:18 AM
That mighta been me, but I took that picture down because it was to show the turbo I had on it, but I'm no longer using that one. In a while I'll have enough progress to post up a good full engine and tranny picture, with wiring and plumbing and all that.

Say, anyone here have a Magnus Motorsports sheetmetal intake? I need to know the runner length and the thickness of the flange...

Dude, the amount of detail in your model so far is astounding.

I can only imagine when it's finished.

Sorry I haven't gotten any pictures yet. I had my aunts funeral and such and have been gone since last week. :(

I'll get you the pictures here in the next few days as I am off from work.

07-27-2006, 12:12 AM
I'm doing alright now that its all past me. Just haven't been sleeping too good thats all. (It brought back a lot of memories from my grandpas funeral a month ago.) Tomorrow I'm gonna be working on my car a good bit, so I have a list of all the pictures you need and I'll try to get as many of them as I can for you.

You should make a model of a Talon exactly like mine for me. lol

daklunk
07-27-2006, 01:33 AM
That's good... my aunt's funeral was hard for me... Man we miss her cookies... :frown:

Lots o' pics, eh? Yeah, that'd be great, and besides the list of stuff, if there is anything that you think maybe I should have also, snap it! Chances are that even if I don't use the subject, there will be stuff around it I can...
The pic that continues to elude me is a continuous shot of the undercarriage. You'd need a lift ofr that, but if you can hit it in sections, that'd be just fine. The rear suspension area from underneath is a trouble spot, too. LOL, just pretend you were going to embark or your own detail building odysee and you needed pictures... what would you take?

Are you going to post them in an album online or here or try and send them to me? I have dial up and there is no way many pictures will get through, but I could always give you another email address that is high spped if you want to go that route...

OK, thanks again!

Hey all, no real updates so far, just started on the Bomex side skirts and the OEM wing. What kind of rear bumper do you guys think would go well with the Bomex front and skirts? The Bomex rear is awful looking IMHO, too awkward. I'm open for suggestions... and any other pictures

blk_srt
07-31-2006, 02:03 AM
I actually kind of like the blitz rear even though its pretty cliche. The Kaminari
kit has some nice lines. http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132319 there is a whole list of them there also

daklunk
07-31-2006, 01:04 PM
LOL, those are the 2 body kits that come with the kit :icon16: The body comes with Blitz side skirts molded on, and then there are Blitz front and rear bumper, Kaminari bumpers, or an Invader front bumper. I think I'll be saving the Kaminari bumpers as the base for the stock bumpers when I build them :evillol: I might have an extra though... Thanks for that link, here's hoping I can find one that'll flow

Picture needed if you will. This one is easy. I need a few clear close ups of the hood hinges. At first I wanted to just leave the hood laying on the body, held by hood pins, but I've decided I want hinges AND pins. So if someone could get me a few pics of those hinges, that'd be great.

Here's what the sides are looking like so far. I removed the molded on Blitz skirts and am now shaping contours that are close to stock before I go and make the Bomex skirts.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/Skirtscut.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/SkPcontours2.jpg

I'll probably end up using the Blitz bumper, maybe with a small CF diffuser?

I'm workin on it. lol I've been workin my ass off here and haven't had a single day to work on my car yet. But this weekend I am off for 3 days and none of my friends will be in town to distract me. So you will have them for sure by this weekend finally. lol

 thanks bro. I totally understand about the camera phone. It is kinda funny though, 3 attempts at 2 seperate forums over a few months and I've gotten 2 sets of pictures :dunno: Hopefully black crow will make it 3, but even still...

Anyhow, I've decided to build fully functional scale replicas of vertical door hinges, will posable struts and all. How will I do this? Nadda clue :grinno: But I'll let you know if I ever find out!

Sounds good! Hey, are you by any chance going to use a Magnus SMIM? I need some measurements before I go wild with the knife and glue...

I also have an in depth question about the wiring harness(es). Umm, more like 10 questions, mostly about where stuff leads to, does anything branch off, etc. I drew a diagram of what I do have figured out, but when I posted it on PB, it shrunk down to unreadable size, no idea why...

One more point, don't know if you saw the mention of the hinges and what not, but I'll need pics of the hood hinges, the hatch struts, and the door rear most part of the door jamb, where the catch for the lock is...

Thankee much, kind sir!

1G throttle body :naughty: Man, I hate this camera, I think I might go splurge and get something with at least 5 megapixels... You can't see anything really. The 4 black dots are for the vacuum lines. The blue dots are for screws (BISS farthest one). The green square is where the coolant passage thingy is. The red square is the base of the TPS, I'll add a chunk of styrene with some wiring that hooks up to the wiring harness...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/oneG_tb2.jpg

This is from the other side, you can see the throttle shaft with a wire winding. I'll cut it off at the blue line and add a disk of plastic and the throttle cable:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Eclipse%20GSX/oneG_tb3.jpg

I'm a little lost on something: I have that the Throttle Cable comes out the firewall and into the cruise box. Then there is a connection between the box and the actuator next to the strut tower... and then what? Directly to the throttle shaft or is there something in between?

And here are the runners for the Magnus SMIM, still needs to be squared and cut to the exact length, plus have the flange made. I'm still debating whether or not to taper the runners, since it won't be seen under the fuel rail and N2O system....

Wow... Thats so awesome looking... What are you making all that out of?

daklunk
08-05-2006, 11:55 PM
It's called styrene, it plastic that comes in sheets, rods, and tubes in all different shapes, sizes, and thicknesses. Really easy to work with, it's the basic staple of scratchbuilding, next to glue and putty.

Do you know the answer to my cruise/throttle question? Enlighten me, O DSM Knowledgable! The thing I'm trying to figure out is how I'm going to wrestle all this into a 2"x2" space... :cya:

Oh and the hinge idea is dead, I can't photoetch .020 Stainless steel. I'm still going to try and incoorperate posable struts, and the hinges will still be vertical style... Just need to figure out how...

Blackcrow64

I can't remember how the cruise cable went on mine... I'll throw a picture of it up too when I get the rest of them tomorrow for ya.

Awesome, sounds good.

Hey, is it unreasonable to call the turbo a 16g if I'm advertising the build as "450+ hp"? A Schwitzer S200 would peg it well into that, but this is supposed to be a street and show car, too. Can't be juicing at every stoplight to beat the lag... Maybe I could say I lifted a variable geo turbo off a Porsche recently...

Blackcrow64
08-06-2006, 06:27 PM
I've got lots of picturessss.

I'm gonna work on getting them online for you now.

**EDIT**
I have them up on my site now and kept them at a high resolution for you so you can see more detail... The only problem is I can't remember how to make it just list everything in the directory folder as if it didn't have an index.html... Does anybody know how to make it do this?

Blackcrow64
08-06-2006, 07:33 PM
Alrighty, disregard my last edit... My server is composed of homosexuals... Anyways, I took the time and liberty to put together a simple one paged list that includes a link to each and every picture I took. Please do not visit this page or pictures unless you are me or daklunk... I don't need my bandwidth killed for the month by having 50 other people browsing through it for no reason. Thank you. :)

And with that said, here they are finally...
http://www.threadlinedesigns.com/modelpics/

Daklunk, as you view them, save them to your harddrive so you have them. Lemme know once you have them all saved so I can remove it all from my site. Because of the high resolutions they killed 1/4 of my space. lol

daklunk
08-06-2006, 07:41 PM
You're the best bro! I'll save 'em right now and let you know as soon as I'm finished. I have dial up so, uh, it may take a minute...

Thanks man!

daklunk
08-06-2006, 07:50 PM
Holy shizzle, when you said high resolution, you weren't kidding! Yes, to anyone else reading this, please don't visit it, it WILL eat up his bandwidth hella quick.

Hey I will have to look at these tonight, I'm sorry, I gotta mow a lawn and get my back adjusted. These pictures will take probably an hour to load and save...

Thanks for doing this, man, this will be a huge help...

Blackcrow64

Yup no problem dude. Theres about 25mb worth of pictures there so it'll take a while on your dial up. lol

08-07-2006, 01:17 AM
OK, sir, you are now free to resize your pics! You took some good ones! This just might be the end of my reference requests... :uhoh: well, probably not, but there's lots to keep me busy! I have it on disk now, I have a lap top next to my workbench, makes accessing pictures very handy. LOL, I already had a 700 mb disk chock full of stuff, now I have more! :naughty:

OK man, thank you so much for doin' this! Shoot, you even crawled underneath for the undercarriage shots. Hope the end result makes it worth your while (may take a little while though...)

And of course I have a couple questions. The hole in the firewall behind the battery, where that wiring harness with the big boot leads, is that the ECU connection? And that seal of the edge of the door runs along the underside too, correct?

Ladies and gentlemen, we now return to our previously scheduled program of attempted scale realism. :jump3:

Blackcrow64
08-07-2006, 10:35 AM
Yeah, the ECU harness and everything else runs through that hole there. My firewall is a bit stripped of sensors and such in that picture. I just thought it would help some anyways. The seal does in fact run on the underside of the door. I'm gonna go ahead and take em down then if you certain your done with them.

daklunk
08-07-2006, 12:29 PM
OK then, here goes! Next update might be in a couple days or so, we'll see...
