Instead of retro, why don't you build your own. I am currently redoing (not as intense as restoring) an 87 Cavalier RS rag top with a 2.8 5-speed. I have been having fun visiting the wreckers and believe me there are a lot of Cavaliers out there, especially the second generation so I am not buying new parts, even though I will have to spring for a rebuilt 2.8 because any 2.8's I find have lots of miles on them. I even stripped the rag top from a car in the wreckers. You need to find a wreckers that will let you go in the yard and take the parts off yourself. Cash speaks very well too.

I am getting rid of the rust, stopping water leaks, and will use this car as a summer car only so it will last. I was going to install air, but found out how expensive it would be to convert R12 to R134, $800. But the wreckers only wanted $150 for the parts if I took them out myself.

The 87 has been in the family for 6 years and I bought it with 190,000km on it. Now it has 260,000km but has spun a bearing. Down the road at a used car dealers there is a black 89 convertible for sale, though I have not priced it yet or seen what options are there, so there are older ones still out there.

The main thing is that I am having fun putting my car back together
