The majority of people that are making it big (in terms of sales/money) nowdays bring nothing new to the table. I know nothing of this Trivium other than they make for hillarious interpretation foder, but I can name at least 2 dozen rappers right now that made it big by doing exactly what the last guy was doin, but being marketed a little better. Just because you sell units doesn't mean you're good. That principle also works in reverse.
