I'm lookin at a 300ft/lb torque electric impact wrench to get the crankshaft bolt off my friends crx and some other cars... or do you guys think it'd be better to go air impact wrenches with even higher torque? I know it varies from car to car but shouldnt this be more than enough? I just dont want to end up buying it and have it not work for me.

you can prolly do it w/out a air wrench, just put a hole in your inner fender and stick a thick screwdriver though the hole and in through one of the holes on your pully and take a breaker car to it.

hows this ok, i was trying to take off my center bolt on my engine. i had a impact wrench that puts out like 300 ft lbs, and i stuck it on my center bolt and it didnt even buge it. so for my car 300ft lbs is not enough.
here is my next plan, first i am gonna jam mu flywheel wiht a screw driver, acutally i cant get my flywheel cover off so i am having probelms already, the get my breaker and stick a 8 foot pole on it and have me, my bro, and my dad pull down on it, i think that should work or i am gonna break the bolt.

I went through this whole fight a while ago. I tried two different impact wrenches and even overpressured (intentionally) a compressor with no results. The big bar didn't work as the engine mounts fles too much. I ended up buyin a GOOD impact wrench (Ingersoll-Rand) that generates something like 600 ft lbs in reverse. The hammers didn' thit more than a couple of times and that sucker was off.

Yeh and thats how i broke my shit. Is the engine out? If so take it to like a shop and have them use there impact to take it out. It will come off with no problem. My friend took his off with his impact gun. Its a bluebird impact gun. Not sure how much torque and all that stuff he used but he did take it out with no problem.
