90210 star seriously hurt
August 12 2002
"Beverly Hills, 90210" star Jason Priestley was seriously injured on Sunday when he crashed during Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series practice laps in Sparta, Kentucky, race sponsors said in a statement.
"Priestley has fractures to both feet, a closed head injury and a fracture of the thoracic spine," Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League, said in a statement.
The 32-year-old Vancouver, Canada, native was airlifted by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Centre in Lexington, 135km from Sparta, Bock said.
The doctor had said in a statement earlier that Priestley was "stable and responding".
The entertainer, who starred as Brandon Walsh in the popular US television series "Beverly Hills, 90210", has raced pro rally cars for a number of years.
Last year, he completed a court-mandated alcohol counseling program following his conviction the previous year for drunken driving after an accident. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years on probation and had his driver's licence suspended for a year as a result of that incident, in which his Porsche was wrecked
