Supra TT vs EVO 9

i was car pooling with my buddy ben ( the stig would know who he is ) to and from work in his supra. i had recently installed a downpipe in that car but i haven't felt how good it pulled yet. the car before the downpipe put down 350whp at 18 psi. most supras usually gains 40whp from just a downpipe so if he was running 18 psi he would've been making close to 400whp. this race was done at 15 psi so it should still be around 350whp.
we were driving home just minding our own business when we see a white EVO 9 with an intake and exhuast on the right lane. but since the parkway that we were on is no where near straight, it would be kinda dumb to do a top end race with powerful cars.
we just ended up pacing each other for a little until the roads started getting straight. the EVO cuts over to our lane and starts to tailgate us, my friend then downshifts to 4th at 70mph and blows him away by bus lenghts till 120mph. he then catches up to us again but this time he is right next to us, he paces us and he guns it and so do we.
we both are in 4th gear but to my surprise we only got a car on him in 4th until we shifted to 5th, thats when was started pulling harder, but thats when traffic came and we were coming at it waay to fast so we had to snake thru the traffic in a heavy ass supra, and call it quits. it honestly was getting too dangerous to keep going.
so we slowed down trying to give him a thumbs up for putting up a good fight, then the guy just guns it right next to us and takes off like a sore loser.
those evo 9's are no joke, the definitly upped the top end on those things. it must've had bolts and a reflash becasue a few nights before that, my friend raced a 996 Turbo cabrio. the porsche probrably only pulled like half a car on the top end.
of course that guy was laughin cause he had 2 hot girls in his car while my friends car had my other friend screaming for dear life.

How do you know the EVO IX had an Intake? Exhaust I can see...
Didn't know Ben drove a Supra... is it a MkIV?

I was minding my own business when my girlfriend im-ed me "hey, tat wrote about that race you had". So i had to see for myself. ERR "the stig" , would you be terminal velocity or redneck? Anywho i believe its Matt im talking to right? (hah) The intake and exhaust can clearly be heard. Like tat said this guy was an asshole. He was bald, held an unlighted cigarette and was around his 30's (the making of a wanna be hardcore gangsta.) He floored it twice next to me before i decided to run him. You can hear that whistling sound almost instantly leading us to believe he def had intake. After the second time we destroyed him, it took him a while to catch up because he was stuck in traffic but when he finally caught up we decided to be good sports and give him the thumbs up for his nice ride. As tat was just about to lift his arm, the guy floors it past me out of desperation to get in the final word. (wat a loser) In any case, EVO 9's are fast and beautiful cars, if only less assholes were driving them the world would be a better place.
Matt- i'll be waiting to own you when GT5 comes out, be prepared!!!

you cant hear intakes?? some intakes can be really noticable, every car is different but on some cars you can really hear the intake, i'm not sure about turboed cars, but on some n/a cars, you cant miss that hiss, i know i can hear mine from inside my car with the windows down
edit: there was a good example on streetfire but i cant find that vid

Well for boosted cars, the intake usually opens up the sound of the turbo spool. A friend of mine and tats' has a EVO 8 . Before he put on an intake the turbo spool can barely be heard.

I have to chuckle a little when you guys call the Evo a beautifull car. I mean I own one but it's not exactly sex on wheels unless you know about the drivetrain, handling and what's under the hood. It's a somewhat plain car in appearance but the performance is beautifull IMHO.

I personally don't think so. Though knowing about the cars capabilities helps alot but there are plenty of things that make the EVO 9 sexy. First off the Evo has wide fenders and a "sharp" styling. The carbon wing and the vented hood also doubles cosmetically. For the EVo 9 the upgraded wheels and the new front bumper definitely improves its image. I agree with you that since we understand the car that is why we are biased about it, however a few times when i'm sitting with my friend in his EVO8 old ,married couples would ask us what kind of car his is. Simply put the EVO looks very unique on the streets.

agreed, take off the big wing and it looks like a normal sedan to me, isn't there a 2 dr version available in japan? or was that only on the sti?

You're probably thinking of the Impreza 22B. It was stroked 2.0L with two doors. It's basically the fastest factory STi ever made. They're worth a ton too since production was limited to a couple thousand IIRC.

The Evo has always been a 4 door though. There have been a few tuners who've turned their Evos into 2 door cars after extensive body work, but Mitsubishi has never released anything other than 4 door Evolutions as far as I know.

Wow, sounds like fun. The new Evo's are heavily underrated from what i've heard. I believe it is said that they should be rated at 330hp. In any event, they are not hard to modify either. Poopras have alot stronger internals stock for stock, but then I think we know who will typically win from a dig :p

hahah that is without a doubt the poopra!!! nah just j/k yeah an evo would own from a dig if he knows how to drive it.

Has to do with the BOV too.

without and upgraded bov if you upgrade to a open filter intake, the cars is breathing better, you can then easily hear the turbo's spooling and the bov

thanx andrew, haven't seen you in a while. As for running your friend, im cool with it. However hooking up from the line might be a problem for me, I've raced my friends sti and got owned (of course this was before the DP and basically stock.) I have shitty tires (kumho ecsta supras) and a slipping clutch. Im waiting on cam shafts and a piggy back unit, so i can push out the most from the twins before i go single (which won't be for a while.)
Anyways when you have time or whenever you're hanging with tat gimme a call.
oh btw, hows the turbo coming along?? I heard about the door ... Shit sux.

Just to chuck in my 2C, a lot of the early STi's were two door. Huge doors thought....you needed like a double garage just to get out, hahaha. And only came in blue and white.
