You have to remove the entire plastic enclosure....theres a bolt that screws through it in to the center of the sub woofer. you have to remove the the trim panel completely and then the box comes out easy. Make a note to chech the condition of the AMP mounter on the enclosure forward of the wheel well. speaker might be good. I found and 8 ohm dual voice coil at target for 20 bucks...wired the coils in series to make 16 ohms (approx.) and used that.....Its a 15 ohm system....you use a regular after market woofer and it will be boomy and loud and put an expreme load on the factory amp...a series wired dual VC seems to work OK...its not perfect as its not engineered for the bass response limits of the enclosure but it saved me 230 bucks.

The factory subwoofer is mounted in the right rear (passenger side in the US) trim panel, opposite the area where the jack is mounted. It does not protrude into the cargo space, all one sees is the grill in the panel.
