smoking battery

My 2002 accent recently needed a new camshaft position sensor. After replacing said sensor. The engine would not crank. There were no obd codes. the batter positive terminal did let out a little smoke. Here's where it is odd. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect it I can turn on the lights. When I try and start it the engine won't start and all the electrical components such as the light won't work. If I disconnect the battery again I can turn on the lights, unless I try and start it again. This sounds like a short in the wire to the starter, but it seems so weird that the car would "reset" each time the battery is reconnected.

it is very weird that it is doing that but there must be a short/slice in the main battery wire u should try replacing that and that will more than likly do the trick and all cars reset when the positive battery wire is taken off and put back on.
