i have a completely stock 2000 dodge neon. my parents bought it 3 years ago and are now passing it on to me and i really appreciate it but its just not up to my standards. i want to improve the engine, put on a body kit, and redo the entire interior. anyone have some ideas!!!

Start with engine mods instead of body kit and junk.Nothing is worse than all show and no go.Good luck and have fun with it.Theese little cars can really come to life with just bolt on performance parts.

money is a issue as i am going into college None that you could probably afford. You know 4 cylinders become a money pit when you start messing around with them. I'd say drive it stock now and save your money for college. You'll need it for something better and mroe construtive than parts for a car that is losing value. I drive a Neon and am going to be a senior in high school. I'm leaving mine all stock and saving my money for more inportant things like food and stuff.

Plus with high gas prices keeping it stock can save you a ton of money that way.

cody are you saying that a 4 cylinder cant be fast? or be fast without soending money. if you are whats fast in your book as far as 1/4 4 cylinders can be fast bone stock. There is a difference between quick and fast. fast=top speed quick= 1/4 mile time Now my neon will do 120 and it's bone stock. That's pretty damn fast for an 2.0L. The thing has shitty acceleration so it isn't quick. If you want good acceleration you'll have to buy aftermarket stuff like turbos, headers, new exhaust, ect and that all will cost a substantial amount of money.

ok so as i asked what is a "quick" 1/4 mile time to you?
because you "theroy" of needing a turbo or nos to have a quick car is far from accurate.

i hit 148 with a mildly modded 1st gen. now i would think that is fast but i dont measure that as fast.....noone does its how fast you can get to that speed. your "quickness".

would 14 sec in a slightly modded neon be quick to you? or mabey 13's

noone ever talks about top speed as a factor in fast.

i have a heavily modded that i hope to run 11's with no2 and 12's without it and no turbo or supercharger. yes i have many dollars into mine.

oh yeah srt's run 13's on a good day. so if you think srt's are fast or quick then a lightweight neon with about 180 hp can probly hit 13's wth a good driver. to get 180 in his car is not that much money just alot of work.

im not sure what you are trying to tell this guy but it "seems" you need alittle more education in what makes a car quick. its mainly the cars weight. power to weight ratio.

im not trying to be an ass but your not looking at this whole thing from the right angle.

I agree that you should do up ur engine before putting a kit or spoiler on it.

All show, No go is horrible.

There's such a large amount of things you can do to these cars, it's all about what you want done.

Completely stock it takes me over 2 miles to get up to top speed. My buddy's truck will hit 90 in 3rd gear. It takes him all of probably 1/2 a mile if that. Now you get what I'm saying?

no what are you saying? your trying to tell me the diff. in how fast you can get to a speed. how many times are you gonna tell me?

im saying your theory of him wasting his money on his neon to make it fast. also you said it can only be fast or whatever you call it by being boosted.
im saying that statement is wrong. and a half mile to hit 90 is horrible.
i probly hit just under eight in the 1/4 with my slow ass car. and its a neon with about 200$ in parts added to it.

ok for the last time this thread is not about your definition of quick vs fast
it about making his car faster and can be done relitively cheap without forced induction or spray, despite your claims of the opposite

I agree with Hypno - These cars can be made fast easily. Parts are fairly cheap and easy to install, and you can do so much.

Although I don't know about your Neon hitting 8's without a turbo and a shit load of work done to it :p
