Crazy Modelers polishing sticks?

Hi guys!

I want to buy some polishing sticks, but not sure what I should buy. Yeah, I know there was a review posted some time ago, but it only talks about the pack with the 3 sticks.

There is also a pack with 3 purple sticks

I ordered those 3 sets thinking the same thing you are right now. After reading and comparing closley the sets that hiroboy sells I've concluded this:
Purple is extra coarse (polishing stick C)
the green/white is super fine (polishing stick A)
the 3 stick set has three different grades (polishing stick B):
Green is Fine
Blue is Neutral
Orange is Course
So...
A>B>C from fine to coarse.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me :wink:

NOTE: The review that Laurel wrote used all the sticks from these 3 sets. (at least it seems that way)

I haven't tried them; they do look like they would work very well.

I already have many excellent sanding and polishing sticks of various shapes and sizes that I bought fairly cheap because I was man enough to walk into a beauty supply shop :icon16:

Whether a beauty supply shop or the nailcare section at a department store, there are great sanding/polishing supplies suitable for modelers, and kits for repairing broken fingernails are also good for repairing or securing major bodywork.

One could easily get the impression someone else figured this out, buys them from wholesale beauty suppliers, and resells them to hobbiests at a significant markup :uhoh: :wink:

Just a heads-up that cool modeling supplies may be easier to find than you thought.

She won't have a clue when you ask for 320 grit.

They're cheap. Just buy any of the ones that look like they'll work, and try 'em out. You'll quickly determine what suits you, so when you return you can buy multiples of the ones you'll use frequently.

I use 4-sided padded sticks with heavier grits for bodywork, and I also use 4-sided padded sticks that are lined with micromesh-style polishing surfaces. You can get them in several sizes. Even small sizes for tight confines.

Yep, it's right between Wal Mart and my grocery store in the same shopping center. Wish my local hobby shops were that easily accessible.

I have these sanding sticks and these are not for sanding straight lines because the grit is on soft foam. Instead use other sticks like Flex-pads or nail files. If you try to sand pointy plastic with it, the plastic will go right through the foam. The sticks have a nasty smell..like tire.

I ordered from Hiroboy's 3 HD sets and a Micromesh Hobby Set. My opinion is.. all of the sticks in the 3 HD sets are needed. As for the Micromesh Set, mostly used for final polishing. I haven't tried the micromesh set yet so that ends here.
Snooker: I would suggest getting them.
I compared sanding with a purple stick (roughly around 900 grit)and Tamiya 800grit wet-dry, results: Tamiya's 800 clogs up fast and sanding pattern ENTIRELY depends on your hands. (not very even in my case). The HD sticks are hugh (in a good way), they are VERY easy to handle, clogs slowly due to size of the stick. Sanding pattern is VERY even. I'll post some photo's a little later once my camera's batteries are charged.

At this point, all I can say is that I am IN LOVE!!

Thanks. I think I'll have to order these sticks very quickly :D

I've been using them for a few months now and would say they are better the than the squardon ones I used for years. The large size is a plus for holding, but they can be cut down if needed, they are also washable.
