Brake issue

When I push on the brake pedal it makes a loud shhhhh noise. The brakes are extremely stiff, but they will still stop the truck. The brake pedal travel has decreased significantly. In other words, I bearly have to push down on the pedal to stop the truck. You can continue to push down all the way to the floor board, and the shhhh sound will stop half way down. It makes the sound whether you are moving or idle. The truck almost dies during idle breaking. Any ideas?

Bad power brake vacuum booster.

I have a 95 Sonoma 4x4 it was doing the same thing a stiff brake pedal and a swooshing sound when I mashed the brakes I changed the Power Brake Booster and my Brakes are just fine now the Booster costed 105.00 for a Rebuilt one.
