^to tell the truth, i'd have never thought it'd be considered gay. but it never really had the presence to give it a second glance, even at the auto show. i took some pics of the solstice, though, it was the hardtop roadster concept.

looking over the list, i don't think most of those cars are gay... i mean, most are un-interesting (ie Camry) but, that's about it. Jetta is a good car, Camry is a best-seller, and the entire '06 stock of 10,000 Saturn Sky's have been sold out!! i doubt every gay man looked at that and said "we must have it, its just absolutely fab!" ... whatever. i don't think the Sky's the gayest thing on the road, to be honest... I think if i saw a pink VW beetle with sunflower wheels pull up, then i'd say its gay... or a clown car... ...gay. I'm looking at the site that did this list, gaywheels.com, and i'm sorry, if they think an '06 Evo MR is gay, then this list is useless bullshit.

I use to own a Z3 and was told that was a gay mans car too. Funny enough just cause I owned the car I did not crave the c*ck :dunno: crazy :rolleyes:. This is something I see a lot of here in AF. If someone doesn't like something be it an object, it's "gay" or if its a person, they call them a "homo, or fag” . I don’t get it; to me it just shows the immaturity of the poster basically what it comes down to it. It's like other terms that people use, without the knowledge of how it was started as an insult to a minority or group of people. Be it the "n" word, the "j" word or the "s" word. Now, I know that most who call something "gay" don't mean it in the way that they hate gays, but understand calling something "gay" was started out of hate. Just outright calling someone “gay” as an insult IS saying that you think being a homosexual is something bad, and if you think that then you're no better than a person who hates people for their race, or religion. If you need to insult someone or something, be original or understand that it does have origins of hate. Calling something gay is just an indication that one
1-Doesn’t have the vocabulary to describe something they don’t like, and or
2-Have a sexual inferiority complex

Now not only is it belittling to people who are actually gay, but it also give AF a bad rap since we get so many newcomers coming in seeking professional expert advice. Seeing such immature banter is an indication that we are not the community of auto enthusiasts that we seek to portray.

Now, to the topic at hand.
Automobile makers are noticing the tremendous buying power of the gay community. With no strings attached, they have the money power to splurge more than the average straight person. This is why Volkswagon and Subaru are pouring in loads of money into so called gay-friendly advertising in gay magazines and tv commercials. The gay community is a tight nit one which responds to such advertising and thus will cater to an automaker that takes the time to promote their products to them. That group bought those cars because the auto makers catered to them. The cars in question are not and should not be labeled “gay” or sissy like. Whether one likes the look of a car is quite objective. Especially since beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What one might find ugly another might find great looking. Plus I cannot not believe that just because the gay population chooses those vehicles that they are to be labeled “gay” or “gay only cars". I say this because since the 40’s through the present there have been surveys that show that 10 percent of the population is either gay or lesbian- that’s close to 25 million people. Applying that same statistic to the automobile buying public if one person who is gay buys one of those cars what about the remaining 9 people that also buy that car? Are they to be labeled gay. I don’t think so.

Ok, thanks. I couldn't tell if you where agreeing with him or not. Cause you said in a few spots I agree with you and in another part you wanted to argue and then asked if you were treading water in banlandia. I was a little lost but I don't think completely doing away with cursing or cussing is a issue... Sure vulgar language can be overly used but sometimes it can also add to the point being made via you trying to be forceful of your opinion or trying to use it humorously. I think the problem is like TS said it stems from a form of hate cause of one's sexuality when its used in the way its commonly being referred to here. Such as anything negative or bad or not being masculine enough for the poster is "gay" and anything up to there self image of having balls or looking tough is "straight" or "normal" to them. Using the term as a insult in this manner is much like using a stereo typical racist word such as the N word or the S towards someone. Sure you may be joking when using it but to people who are actually Black or Hispanic or members here who are gay (and believe me out of 400K + members despite what they may have you believe) we do have gay members and even though to me or you it may not be a insult to them it is and that is unfair. Trust me, even if your fine with the word being used that refers to you. There will come a time with the way and manner it is used and by the people using it. That will bug you and even if you don't make it known it bothered you. I am sure you can agree there are going to be cases when you prefer people didn't use a word to describe your race.

I think it's funny, though, how hard straight guys often defend gay guys. I have several good gay friends and have no problem with them (though I don't agree that it's natural, but that's another topic altogether), but they're cool and make gay jokes more than most straight people do.
