The 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans took place on June 17th and 18th. It was the 74th running of it. 50 cars raced this year, but more garages will be built so that 55 cars will race next year.

Le Mans has sting in the tail for factory DBR9s

Pedro Lamy, Stephane Ortelli, and Stephane Sarrazin suffered a clutch problem with their # 009 Aston in the 21st hour. They had a lead of one lap over the # 64 Corvette C6-R before they had to pit for the clutch repair.

After just four laps, car 007 - driven by Darren Turner - required an unscheduled pit stop to replace a split oil pipe on the sump of his DBR9. He damaged it on a curb while entering the pit lane, after the Safety Car had been deployed following an accident involving the DBR9 of BMS Scuderia Italia.

Enge, Turner, and Piccini finished 2nd in GT1 in their 007 DBR9 and 6th overall while Sarrazin, Lamy, and Ortelli finished 5th in GT1 and 10th overall.
